I have a stock 08 883c that has done 1300 kms. Fuel use has been between 5.3 to 5.8 litres per 100kms. Will this improve? What economy do others get?

    Hi possum.
    I have an 07 883c.
I used to get about 4.5 - 5.5lt/100kms. Fuel warning light came on about 210-220. When filled took about 10-11 litres. Mine had hiflow mufflers from new.
After covering 10,000 km's I recently had the SERT and stage 1 aircleaner fitted. Now get about 4lt/100km. Typically fuel light comes on about 250kms. Recently on a trip fuel light didn't come on till 270kms.
    I work out km's/lt. Used to get 19-20 km/lt. Now getting 22-24km/lt.
Bike has just over 14,000 km's now. I use 98 octane fuel.
    Hope this helps.

    Thanks Rodders
Warning light comes on at about 180 kms. Pushed the last tank to 282kms, needing 15.3 litres to fill. Getting between 17.3 to 18.5 kms/lt

When I first got my bike I got about 140 km to an tank .after the second fill I rang the Dealer to find out if this was right
His replie was STOP RIDING LIKE A GIRL , so from then on I uped the anti and run the bike in with some hard riding ,
Now I get about 250-280 km to a tank

Um, Just to revive the necro thread here, Hm... Just read this... My Iron is a few weeks old. - Done 500kms. - And gets 150km till the fuel light comes on?? - WTF? - Mind you, it is geting better. - It's got V & H staggred shprty pipes, ham can trim removed & external breathers. - Other than that, Stock as a rock!

Might need to pluck the plugs & see what it's actually running like me thinks...

If it's rich as I might try the "Home made" heavy breather on it... Was going to wait for a fuelpak

The warning light comes on on my Iron at 150 too. Fuel consumption is getting better either because it's loosening up (1100ks on the clock) or because I'm revving it a lot harder now it's run in. Someone on this forum said he fitted a tacho and found he was under-revving (heaps) so since then I've been giving it a lot more stick. Presently getting about 5 litres per 100k so it looks like 200+ks out of a tank is do-able. Don't know what effect the heavy breather and SE mufflers have.

Yeah Im going to mae a heavy breather clone, the only thing Im hung up on now is the ECU. - What to do with it. - It's looking like Fuelpak, TTS or SE super Pro.
