Ok we all know that RT has an iron butt and does lots of miles ...BUT....

what about the rest .. what are some of the most memorable rides people have had over the years

myself, the recent 0TAA80 ride was good and when younger I did a motorcycle course in the army .. went from pucka punyal in Vic, into NSW then down to SA and across the bottom and along the Great Ocean ride

the great thing about the course was that if you crashed the bike, you didnt have to pay for it and being young and dumb, had no fear as well, so plenty of crashes

we had two sorts of bikes, both suzukis,  a 650 and the other a 400 ... on the long parts of the ride if you had the 400 you would run out of petrol and be left by yourself until the recovery vehicle came along with petrol ... speed usually wasnt an issue .... given bugger all restrictions it was the best course I ever did and we had such a ball doing the ride .... all up the ride was 2500 k's

that ride has stuck in my head ever since

the guys who rode in the seventies and eighties .. you must have some great stories

I have done Wollongong to Brisbane and back ..each leg done in a day and over no more than 3 days ..somewhat of a long ride but it wasnt really enjoyable apart from the fact of being on a motorbike

it was just a straight ride, simply stopped for fuel ..that to me isnt memorable

Thats what I am talking about, a road trip that you will never forget, simply for the bee sting or something else going wrong

A bloke I work with was telling me about a trip he did to Adelaide through Broken hill from sydney with a bunch of mates in the 70's ... he said they got pulled up at a town by the local copper and he insisted they buy helmets otherwise he would book them .. well they went into the shop and simply waited for him to drive off, he said as soon as the copper did they jumped on the bikes and roared off, got a short distance out of town and went into the bushes to hide ... he said they could hear the copper going up and down the highway all nite looking for them ... he did the trip with only the clothes he was wearing as well

The wife and I took the old Katana and a ZRX kawasaki on a few good trips from Brissy, we did most every connecting road between the Pacific Highway and the New England highway on the way down to Sydney. One of best runs we did was from Walcha to Port Maquarie. We have also done the Putty road,Bells line of road, the Snowy Mountains Highway, the Great Ocean Road,Philip Island,Bathurst and every twisty mountain range we could find along the way.Almost all of our holidays were spent on a bike, the Katana put up the most miles and never let us down. Can't wait for the next one, but one thing that is a bit annoying about owning a Harley is that you tend to worry about where you leave it when travelling. If it gets knocked of at home you can just claim insurance but when you are travelling it tends to interupt your holidays if someone steals ya bike.
