Hey guys,
Need a hand, I was changing out the transmission oil today and before I drained it I checked the level (it was full) but when all the oil came out only about 250ml came out, I even put the bike upright . I thought this was weird as the manual says to put 1 quart of oil back in.
So I did what the manual suggests and have put 1 quart of oil back into the transmisson but now the level reads about 4cm above the full mark.
Whats the go?
Should I drain some oil out to get back to the full mark (logic says to do this)
What could happen if I ride with to much oil in the transmission?
Would love this little problem fixed as it's a long weekend here in WA and I want to ride.
Thanks for any help
You now got too much oil in the tranny Big H,
Start again and make sure that all comes out the drain plug hole,
At first hint it sounds like you may have a foreign object ,,, or glob restricting the drain hole,
Level or on the jiffy stand, makes no difference to draining, but you may have to poke around up the hole to remove what's causing the blockage,
gently does it though with something like a drinking straw, or piece of soft wire, and see if you can clear the drain hole.
Running with an overfull tranny will cause oil to spew out everywhere and risk blowing seals.
Have you got a magnetic plug in this one? if so, was there much metal on the magnet when you removed it?
It should have been relatively clean if all is OK with the tranny, If there was a lot of crud on it, or accumulated around the drain hole, you may have problems.
Edit Note;
Was just thinking H, if it turns out that you can't drain the oil for whatever reason, you'de be better off ducking down to the local Chemist and buying the largest syringe that they have , a 12 inch length of tube to fit it, and then draw out the excess oil from the fill/level plug hole on top.
At least that way the tranny will have the correct amount of oil in it.
Got it sorted, I re-drained it and started again, no blockage.
