Does anyone have any experience in getting an old harley licensed at all.
Have a 1962 XLH which is unlicensed as has sat in someones back shed for 20-30 years I am told.
Engine has serial number on it and frame has no numbers on it, as have been told that HD didn't put numbers on frames until after 1972.
Bike also has no turn signals either, not sure these will need to be fitted as they were not fitted back in 1962 I am told.
Has anyone had any experience in getting old bikes licensced or can offer any advice, thanks.
A bike of that age will need, one mirrior, high low head light, park lights front and rear, brake light operating off both brakes and red rear reflector.
When you turn up at a DPI station for inspection you should take a Stat Dec. stating how and where you obtained the bike.
The biggest problem you will have is proving that you own the bike.
Its best to get a recept from the last owner and proof that they owned it. (old rego papers are the best) but if you cant get this then you might have to wait 28 days before they can process your licence while they check to see if the bike is all ok to licence eg not stolen.
The engine number should be enough for DPI to identify the bike if it has been regoed in Aus before. and when it is all good you will be issued with a chassis number for the bike.
Thanks guys, much appreciated.
