Came across this bike lift from J&S Jacks, not sure if you can get it in Oz but they ship internationally: http://www.jsjacks.com

I reckon the lifts  with a foot controlled, sprung loaded lowering pedal might be better than a manual turn valve type.

Gives you more control while lowering, and the ability to stand next to the bike for steadying at the last stages.

repco had a sale on a very similar lift only a couple of months ago. $150.. a few people from here purchased them. including myself. i have even ran the engine lifted at that height on a roadking. works great even just to clean the wheels. foot operated raise and lower. one person job plus a handle to move the whole thing around without grabbing the bike.and in regards to the side stand, on my bike at least you cant fold the stand up while its on the jack. it hits the framework of the lift base.

I got one of those repco lifts and the bike has been sitting at full height now for over 3 weeks. It came with a tie down

but haven't used it. Rock solid.

Got the REPCO one as well. Good enuff for the price, but no where near as stable as the J&S. The bars are a lot closer together so not as stable.
There is no way that I could swing the bike around as they do on the video or hang off the bike like that!! Not that I really need to.
As they say...... You get what you pay for.
