Get your service manual, and check all the wiring from the connector (under the seat) all the way to the tailight. Is tailight bulb OK?
Take the bulb out, hookup the multimeter to the positive and push the brake. You'll be able to check if there is a voltage being sent across!

well this morning started to look at brake light, first thing was i pulled front brake lever off, turned the key on and pushed the little button in and bugger me if the brake light when out, so all this time it has been on and not going off. on replacing everything back together i see the lever tag was not depressing the little button in/ just resting on the front of it. had to made a small adjustment, all is ok now.  these  controls are not standard and came with the handlebars when i did a change.  hope this my helps others .  cheers  flea

I had work done (I won't say who buy) by the time I rode the bike home the wiring had rubbed out on the rear tyre because the dip stick didn't tie the harness up. Up shot was the brake light was eathing through the tail light and the tail light would go out. Used to have similar probs with old holdens earthing back through the lights when the earth lead had rusted out.

I'd say check for knicks in the wires, or loose connections before giving up arms and legs to a mechanic
