Hi all,
I didi a search but couldn't find the answer to my question so he goes;
Have a 2006 Softail Ni and other thna slip-ons is standard.
I have notice that I am leaking oil from the air-cleaner to the point it is 'spraying' my rear pipe and dripping down to the bottom of the engine.
No alot of oil but more than I think it should (rewally think it shouldn't at all)
I pulled the air-cleaner off and cleaned the inside so I have a baseline to work with to see how much it leaks per ride.
Its this normal?
What typically causes such a leaK?
Should I be concerned?
Should I even give a fcuk?
Cheers
Poddy
Perhaps too much oil in the tank. Check the level, and make sure it's not over the full line on the dipstick. Infact, I usually only fill mine to halfway, does'nt spray any more.
A little bit of leaking is normal. That's where your breathers are located ( older models had them routered underneath the bike but new EPA laws changed all this for the better IMO ). There are lots few reasons for excess oil leakage. Overfilling as previously mentioned, oil pump misalignment but that could be a long shot if nobody has worked on your bike recently. Also you may want to run your finger around the inside of your pipes and it feels wet, you may have problems with your oil rings.
My suggestion, check if it's been overfilled, if not, take it to a trusted bike mechanic for compression and leak down test.
Hope this helps.
