Hoping someone can help me out - how do I disconnect the exhaust flapper valve when removing the rear header pipe???  Bike is 2010 Softail Deluxe.

    Thanks, berms.

Just unplug it and the unit comes off with the pipe.

OK.... how does it "unplug"? where does it unplug from...... a little more info please!

I assume you mean the cable?, as opposed to the wiring.
It is retained by a speed clip(right down on the pipe by the valve itself), that is easily flicked out/pulled off, and then you have all the freeplay you need to disconnect the cable.
If you are not planning on reusing the stock header, you can simply also remove the cable from the servo unit that drives it(so now the cable is completely off the bike). This means you will not have to plug anything in to stop an error code, as you can leave the electrical connector plugged in. The servo will keep working just the same, but, of course, there will be no cable attached. I am really not sure why people recommend or buy the "eliminator" type products.
If you have a suitable "tuner", you have nothing to lose by also turning the unit "off".

..... Especially with the high flow air cleaner kits where leaving the "gubbins" on the frame was not an option...

When I installed my Stage 1 a/c there were no "gubbins" to be removed, I just removed OEM a/c and bolted on the new one..... what are these "gubbins" you refer to?
