Breaking in the CVO.... experienced ideas/views welcomed...

OK rain has stopped, so better quickly ask, What's your thoughts / experiences in breaking in new HD's?

    for the last FXDC I had;

Always idle for full minute before riding, made sure to vary the revs/gears alot, did several 80klm - 150klm trips, was careful to have the right gear to not load up the drive train, and generally gave it a pretty good cracking after the first 40klms and then more or less for ever after, but for first few hundred took it easy on the brakes.

What do you think? I must say everyone who rode my bike commented on how snappy it was and it really did seem to crack pretty good.

One thing I'm worried about is they have put Screaming Eagle Synthetic into it at Trivetts?
I would have thought you'd avoid a synth for first 300 k's say, and then switch to that for the remainder of the bikes life...

How many km's has it done so far ? If only a few kms, replace it with mineral if your keen.

I've run-in new bikes before using synthetic with zero problems, but it can cause issues.

    It has done 0000004 klms.

Hmm yeah dunno. Why would shop put that in if it's a bad thing, especially after they gave me huge lectures on taking it easy and breaking in etc. If I change can I just drain myself or would it need to be flushed properly being Synthetic?

A flush would be best as the synthetic would already be coating everything, but i think a new filter and fresh mineral oil would suffice.

For $50 it may be worth it for peace of mind ?

Keep in mind though, a lot of (most ?) bikes and cars these days do come with Synthetic from new.

Recommend you take a look at

    http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

Have used this method twice now with good results, although only the next strip down will show for sure!
As he says,"controversial", but I ran in my brand new Twincam his way - then dumped oil(mineral) and filter after first 30 kays, then pretty much rode as normal, but varying gears (revs) till the fist service(1600k)
Bike pulled well, even in stock trim. They gave me a loaner at first service that had 6000 kays, SE pipes and high flow filter. My stock standard bike would have blown it away!!

Thing is, bike has 2 years unlimited warranty, if I have hurt it, it should show up in this time, and they wont know how I run it in!

Going well boys, just about 220klms now. Engine starting to kick over easier. Revving nicely now. Pipes have allowed a bit more breath (they have done 30klms only).

Brakes still pretty crap, have been trying not to glaze em', will start to break heard from now on and see how they go once they bed in.

Having done a very similar ride around NYE to thru Inverloch I can agree it's tops.

(only thing when I did my ride got to #3 and Shazza told me she was single? sorry mate there was no sight of the Burnzi at that time).

Ps. the "seafood" was lovely my regards to Shazza.

So lads, hit about 700klms now.

Only things is, the bike is kind of "breaking itself in"... last night battling back from Wisemans the entire air assembly just fell off! WTF!?

AH WELL made it easier to install the MoFlow kit when i got home last night. HAHA.
