G'day
I went for an over nighter down to Dover south of Hobart on Monday. It was pretty cool with lots of frost/ice on the road. My bike was running very rough, lots of missing, back firing and cutting out all together in the coldest places, usually at the bottom of the hills where the road was covered in frost, and would get better as I went up the next hill onto the warmer road.
Sometimes this was so bad I didn't think I was going to make it. When I got to Dover I put some Octone boost in the tank and all seem to be fine after that.
I have had lots of bikes in colder weather than this and never had any worries.
Am I right In thinking the bike was running very lean due to the extra oxygen in the cold air??
My harley is a 02 fatty carb.

At handover this morning, my mate who used to have the same motor reckons that little bits of ice form in the carb. And my bike only got better when I got to Dover due to it being warmer. If this is so how do I get around it??
Next time I will try the choke out little.
The Carby may have been getting seriously cold & caused the bike to run crap , thats why some Carby bikes have Carby heater's .
