Thought i would post this in here for people to have a read:

    UMC NSW

    CHALLENGE FOR THE TRUTH RIDE

Attention, all Motor Cycle Clubs, Car & Hot Rod Clubs, Trade Unions, and any Organisation which have an interest in the draconian ‘anti-association laws’ currently being imposed by the NSW Government.

The UMCNSW is about to embark on a nine month campaign to raise public awareness of dangerous elements of the Crimes (Criminal Organisations Control) Act 2009 and to have these issues debated publicly before the 2011 state election in March.

The first event will be the “Challenge for the Truth Ride” to issue a challenge to politicians and high ranking police officers to publicly debate the act.

Your club/organisation is encouraged to participate in the event, which will be held on Saturday the 5th of June. Riders / drivers will gather on Hickson Rd., Barangaroo between 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM before proceeding to Parliament House where speakers will summarise the problems with the Act and formally issue the challenge.

    Why should your club participate?

We know from politician’s statements that the reason for the Act is to “rid the streets of (so called) outlaw motorcycle gangs”. This may be the present government’s intention, but the act encompasses any group of three or more people.

Once the 20 or so easily targeted patch wearing clubs have been declared under the act, who will be next.

Future targets could be Trade Unions, non main stream religious groups, Martial Arts clubs, social motorcycle clubs and car clubs.

A brief look at the Crimes (Criminal Organisations Control) Act 2009 uncovers some disturbing issues:-

    • The act does not mention motorcycle clubs. It applies to any group of three or more individuals that the Police Minister and the Attorney General may wish to pursue.

    • The definition of a “member” of an organisation cast a wide net and could include those who have only minimal contact with the target organisation.

    • Only an “eligible” Supreme Court Judge can “declare” an organisation or individual, but the Attorney General appoints and dismisses the judges and therefore can quite easily stack the bench in the Governments favour.

    • Evidence is deemed “criminal intelligence” and is heard in private resulting in the individual or organisation being unaware of the evidence presented against them and therefore unable to contest it. In affect reducing the independence of the judiciary.

    • The rules of evidence do not apply. Organisations can be declared on the basis of hearsay, possibly even an anonymous phone call.

    • The standard for a finding has been reduced from “beyond reasonable doubt” to “on the balance of probabilities”

Of course the government has said that they will only use the act against criminals, but can the present government, or future governments be trusted. History says they can’t.

The UMCNSW believes this Act to be an extremely dangerous piece of legislation, which has to be repealed.

We invite your club to participate in the “Challenge for the Truth Ride” and support future events. For more information, to find out how the legislation affects you, or to discuss how you might assist, contact us via our website. www.umcnsw.org

As this protest ride may require a permit, could those intending to participate please advise us of numbers (people and motorcycles) via our website.

Just got back. What a mega turnout. Looked like all the big 1% clubs were there.

Almost as many coppers too, including helicopters.
