    Hello Scrivens,

I believe that I understand lugging and I know what rpm my bike is turning at 60 mph.  The way that mine is geared, it is turning 3300 at 60.  Doing the math, that puts it at 2750 at 50 mph in 5th gear.  I don't believe that is lugging on level ground with almost no throttle.  Put a steep up hill into that equation, and yes, that would be lugging.

Whether an engine is lugging or not can be defined by the load that is on the engine at a given rpm.  For instance: if you are going down hill in 5th gear at 40 mph, with the throttle closed, you can hardly say that that is lugging.  Generally speaking, low rpm with lots of throttle can be considered lugging especially in the lower rpm ranges.

Thanks for the thought.  I appreciate your input.

I'm sure I heard what you have described today. Would never even had noticed if I didn't read it hear first. Noticable after a long highway run. I'd say it seems to come from the rocker box.

It's nothing compared to the tappet noise in my old Enfield.

    Cheers.
