My 2007 Sportster 1200 Custom has begun leaking oil from the rear cylinder casing about level with Head screws on left hand side. Am worried it'll be a head gasket and cost involved.  If so will both front and rear need to be done? Where is a mechanic I can trust in Western Burbs of Melbourne?

Degrease it and then try to find the leak. Our 08 started leaking from the lower rocker cover gasket at 10000klm, which we were told happens to this model. If thats the problem then it's an easy repair compared to the heads. We only replaced the damaged one and it's been fine since. Good luck.

I would say without an eyeball the oil would be a split rockerplate/spacerplate gasket , oil from the air cleaner and last but not least blown base gasket from reving the freckle out of it when its cold but you dont do that do you

Yeah, well I only replaced the leaking front one at 10000klm, but now the rear is leaking at 19000klm. No wonder they sell them in pairs! Lesson learnt.
