Aldi Go Cruise 350 motorccycle GPS Unit-- advertised price $199-- I paid $170
PROBLEMS:
First up the supplied mount 1/2 clamps don't fit HD OEM bars-- however with reasonable fabrication skills one could open up the 1/2 clamps to fit the bars-- I did think about doing this BUT---
The second thing put me off completely is the Route 66 Sync function may or may not work and the Route 66 support is useless. I'm fairly reasonable at computer stuff and I tried in vain to get Route 66 sync to shake hands with the GPS unit using the software that came with it. it just kept saying "device not connected". So--I downloaded the most recent version of Route 66 sync from their website and connected the Go Cruise to update the maps but during that process the Go Cruise locked up and won't even open the maps now.
I really wanted to like this unit and tried in vain to make it work. It appears to be well waterproofed, is well priced for sure, and has an excellent GPS locator chipset (SIRF 3) and it locked on to the sats quickly (while lying on the dash of my 4wd). The FM transmitter function worked a treat through the 4wd FM radio--clear and no static so I'm pretty sure it would be fine for sound system equipped bikes, and if no sound system on the bike there is a FM receiver you can clip to your helmet with a very small ear speaker.
There is a plethora of info on the net about this unit if you care to read it.... I did and still couldn't get it to work properly.
To get over the crap Route 66 GPS functions some users have loaded the TomTom OS and are happy with it, but I just got tired of farkin' around with it so back it goes. Good thing Aldi has a good return policy. Buyer caution suggested...!
