I am nearing completion of my new build and was just wondering what you guys put in your donk to break it back in.

I normally use Mobil 1 V-Twin, but I'm thinking this may be too thick of an oil for break in.

As for Km's to do, I was told 500k's is enough for break in - is it.

Oh yeah I replaced cams with new rollerchain set up,barrels, pistons, valves etc.

Cheers for any responses in advance

    Mal

Ozroder is 100% correct. This is off the Mobil 1 website. They recommend Mobil 1 car oil.....

    Question:
    Using Mobil 1 15W-50 in Harley-Davidsons
Several independent tests have shown that Mobil 15W-50 is virtually similar to Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50 oil. Since Harleys utilize separate oil supplies for the primary and tranny, is there any valid reason not to use the 15W-50 in a Harley?
    -- Dave Gartner, Goodyear, AZ

    Answer:
As long as the primary and tranny are separate sumps and there is no concern for clutch performance, then Mobil 1 15W-50 can be used in a Harley.

Oz - I'll get off my high horse now, I was under the impression you were having a dig at me for asking the question.
    My apologies.

Jam - thanks for clearing that up

I am using HD20-50 for my heat cycling and will run it for about 50 km and will than drop it and refresh with more HD20-50, wont change the filter until about 1000k at which time I will also change oil again to HD20-50....

As for the oils aint oils debate.....When I pulled my motor down the pistons showed some signs of blow by and carbon buildup, after 55000ks...I was an avid Amsoil user, but I'm not too sure if Amsoil is all it's cracked up to be.....Methinks it may be too slippery and not allowing the scraper rings to clear the oil of the cylinder walls sufficiently.

My intention for the future is to stick with HD20-50....Change a bit more frequently and have a look at it next time I do a build....
