Had my bike for 6 months now and there's rust on all the spokes  Ya spend  $26 k on a bike and you get shit spokes .  I want to be

So i took it to the dealer yesterday and as he was getting some pic's to send to HD he told me i've got an uphill battle with them to fix it under warenty   , but he also told my i just might get them to come to the party . if they do fix it , it will only be a one of , they wont fix them again .

So if they do fix them i dont mind paying a little extra and put better quality one's on .

Dose anyone know of a good brand of good quality chrome  spokes to use , that would be a big help .

I'll keep ya'll posted on the outcome

    Thanks

I spent $280 on stainless spokes on my 93 Wide glide front wheel ( had a solid centreline rear ) 5 years ago sold the bike last month and still looked new. Go spend a coupla hunge on the stainless, you won't be sorry. ( the new fat bob is here for me next week, solid wheels no spokes to clean. Y.F.B.)

I have an 05 Deuce and live in tropical (wet and humid) Cairns. My spokes started to rust not long after I got the bike in July 05. If you read your owners manual it states that corrosion on spokes is not a manufacturing fault and that it will not be covered under warranty. However, I consider that I was fortunate to get my spokes replaced with stainless steel ones under warranty as I had other items on my bike also replaced due to corrosion problems. Good luck with your local dealer, if this fails, then just fit stainless and then problem solved. Keep me posted on the outcome.......

I noticed on the new Road Kiings that they have chrome plated steel spokes.

Should be better than the others which are steel but have a been anodised coated, just like the bolts are coated with on your engine. just one thing that shits me with HD is that they use anodised bolts which is a cheap and nasty coating especially for the price we pay for the bike and compared to high quality of the fine grain alloy castings which is a real shame.

Just a little something I've learnt over the years of owning the FXR. Dont use aluminium spray-on cleaning products on your bike as alot of them contain agressive acids that actually eat into the anodised coatings and cause the parts to corrode. I found out the hard way.

Stainless Steel is the go, easy to maintain and with a bit of a buff will give a nice shine.

I even gradually replace the bolts with stainless steel (except the high tensile bolts) to give a better quality finish with the rest of the bike, eg gearbox side, nose cone and primary covers

    Just my 2 cents worth.

Mine are also rusting (06 softy) and I am going to take the above advice and try to get them replaced before the warranty runs out in aug. My 77 Bonneville didn't have rusty spokes 6 years after having the wheels re-laced, it's just shit quality control.

Replaced spokes on the rear wheel on my heritage with stainless steel, surprised how rusty they got in such a short amount of time. Only stuff up, I should have polished them before I put 'em on. Dull finish.

My 09 FXDC had rusty spokes on the front after 18 months. Ended up getting respoked with stainless ones and no more rust.
Just for the record all spokes on any HD is not Chrome just nickle plated hence they rust with time and all the crap that comes off the road when its wet!!!! Now saving to respoke the rear with stainless.
Dont quote me but I think the spokes where $250 alone then the lace job on top about $500 total.
    Hope this helps
