After nearly 3 months I pick up the Sturgis tomorrow, Thursday 13th May.
The guys at P&L Performance, Girraween, especially Pieter have been busy rebirthing this nearly 29 year old machine. He has taken this on as a bit of a project and gone from front to back checking everything. Major problem was the primary engine seal that had collapsed, plus front brake lines and master cylinder. However they have checked and replaced where required all gearbox seals wheel and steering head bearings, starter solinoid etc. etc.
Pieter reckons it runs and rides really well.
Can't wait to give it a blast.!!!!
Cheers
Jeremy
Well picked it up and went for a little ride that ended up being 4 hours!! It runs sweetly and rides like a dream. Pieter has done his magic and got the engine running better than it has for about 15 years. Will idle at about 750 revs with that classic potato, potato sound. And no shakes - just brilliant. And starts 1st push of the button - from cold!!! Hasn't done that for 20 years. Always kick start from cold (or a run and jump) and press start once warm.
New front braided brake lines plus pads etc and the front brakes work better then new!! I thought they were really there for show - seemed like it most of the time!!
Got to get used to the no frills wind in the hair, bugs in the teeth riding. Also forgot how heavy the clutch is in comparison to the nancy boy modern clutch on the 'couch'. Just as well only 4 gears!!! Why do we need to have 5, 6 or more gears? Once you are in top you just open the throttle until your eyeballs start to rotate in the sockets. Then you know you are exceeding the speed limit!!!
Loved it. I think I might ride the 'beast' up to Road Warriors for the T-Bolt donation ride.
Photo's coming soon. I'll get my son to do some as he has this new, beaut digital thingy. I've only got the phone one. Then I'll have to work out this photobucket stuff!!!
First Sturgis photo's taken this morning on T Bolt run . Thanks Road Warriors!!! See NSW Rides/events. More to come.
Saw The Pics and now I'm REALLY ENVIOUS!!!!!.
Beautiful bike mate, and obviously in the hands of someone that appreciates it.
Enjoy it.

Worked my arse off when I was younger to buy an 82 Sturgis. Mumma said instead buy a house son and you won't regret it! I bought the Sturgis....... time went on and the Sturgis went for a house...... and now I still have the pain and regret it!
Sensational.........................
Thanks one&all for your positive comments.
Blackey's photo's are very complimentary and do not show some of the wear and tear!!!
Some day we'll get round to a full rebuild ie frame up, but just now I want to enjoy it as is. However, since its return we've had pretty ordinary weather and I prefer not taking it out in the rain and shit.
nice bike mate, dad has a '80 fxb which he left in bits......great to see pics of one on the road!
Well it has been awhile but finally restored the sidecar and suitably affixed to the Sturgis!
Looks sweet. I had the pleasure of seeing your bike at P&L's.
Thanks WA. P&L did a great job. Use them for both my bikes. Recent photo from the Distinguished Gentlemen's Ride!
