hi ,  also check & clean the sender unit on top of the gear box as these clog up  with metal particles from crunching the gears  & sometimes need to be replaced ,

hi i think they have circuit breakers & cut back in automatic if you have a short you can hear them click out  when you turn the key on  & after 30 sec click back in again
