    Hogman,

One of the problems for local parts retailers is that a lot of their stock was purchased at previous exchange rates so they still have to sell it at inflated prices to get their money back. That's why buying online from the US is so much better because you get the benefits of the higher AUD right away, not when the local retailers can catch up.

It's fucked if you export anything, nobody wants to pay for it.

As for the stock being bought at old prices, the dollar has been high for over a year and hovering around 90c since October last year - if they use the stock as an excuse they either buy too much or they sent their freight via camel train.

It will go up but only when the commodities price will start rising again.

Unfortunately our $ is tied up to the commodity market and although our economy is in much better shape than the US, our dollar is on the ground because the downturn in prices.

Hopefuly the Chinese and Indian market will pick up again and the prices will start rising.

I am planning a trip overseas and need strong Aussie dollar

    hogman has it right.

The only thing thats missing is most parts go from a manufacturer (say  US for example)  to distibutor (say in Sydney) to the dealer then to you. And thats if your lucky. Sometimes there are even more fingers in the pie. In addition in Australia I believe you guys have an additional 10 percent import tax. Freight is a non-issue if you are ordering by the container. I can send a 40-foot hi cube to Sydney for 4500 US.
