Well, I suppose you guys in Vic saw the news regarding the new police tactics on the Black Spur.

    So for our interstate friends.............

This is for real. Cops hiding in the bush wearing camo gear with binoculars and speed guns.

Sneaky, under the carpet - make up your own rules, a licence to collect money - the more money you collect the faster you go up the ladder.
I know the Police have a job to do - without them it would be first up best dressed - But fairs fair - This just stinks.

"oohh" i forgot  , if Cop's are seen by the public & we slow down "No Fine's are issued"  dont be fooled this Government wants every $$$ they can get  ..

Soon enough they will take a photo of us getting onto any hwy then another photo of us getting off the hwy, work out the distance - then the time it took - and bang - a little suprise in the mail.
Then if you don't receive your bill, they take your licence, without you knowing, then charge you to get it back.
"All for the good of the community" - or will it be for the $$$$$$$$

My issue is single focus policing - I would rather see more police on the roads , on the beat looking for all manner of law breaking rather than zoning in on speeding alone
Twice on the Western Highway I was nearly cleaned up by firstly a ute overloaded with hay bales , falling off the ute and secondly a semi crossing double lines to overtake coming at me - with in 2kms there was a speed camera set up - if it was a cop car - then I would have politely asked them to undertake some appropriate traffic management for the sake of all road users
( see - we can be polite if we try !)

They have been there for at least 12 months doing it.. Ive been through there while they have been there, infact 20 or so of us in a group. Stuck to speed limits had no prob. But in saying that, could of been smoko or something lol. We wernt doing nothing wrong just soaking up some great country side.

Absolutely correct, the two bastards give us all a bad name

we can all see from the video the riders breaking the law, passing in a no pass area, exceed the speed limit to achieve it, they get the right to pay a fine.

the other two bastards on the hill is sneaky and down right rude.
on the up side, the bikes were pulled over on the spot and "pro active" policing takes place, a better way than receiving a fine in the mail a month later

Here are some interesting facts that relate to this lively debate.
I'm a 4 pointer so don't mind slowing down one more fine and license done. hahahahah mind you it ain't illegal if they don't see ya.

In a common variation on this myth, the road lobby points to the lower road toll per capita in Germany, a country generously provided with non-speed-restricted autobahns. It is certainly true that, according to the OECD's International Road Traffic and Accident Database (IRTAD), Germany's road toll of 8.5 per 100,000 population is lower than Australia's road toll of 9 per 100,000 population. But the real reason for this is that Germans simply do not drive as much as we do (even though they own just as many cars). Sure enough, if one goes to the IRTAD figures for deaths per billion vehicle kilometres (a better measure of actual exposure risk), one gets the opposite story: Germany's toll of 11.3 per billion veh-km actually exceeds Australia's toll of 9.1 per billion veh-km.

The only OECD countries with a lower fatality risk than Australia (whether per person or per vehicle kilometre) are the Scandinavian countries, the Netherlands and Britain - all of which have high use of public transport, walking and cycling, along with road safety policies that focus on driver behaviour rather than expansion of limited-access roads.

In summary, empirical evidence both from Melbourne and overseas confirms that road-building leads to higher traffic volumes and hence more crashes, while on the other hand countries with higher public transport use than Australia tend to have a lower per-capita road toll as well.

If you are interested in learning a new approach to road safety, you can do yourself a favour and check out RoadSense.com.au – an non profitable organization outlining the facts, based on Government data, as to how and why the current policy has failed, how we are being mislead (speed kills) and what needs to be done to save lives on our roads.
