    G'Day all

Just left home (about 1klm) when the engine diagnostic light come on along with the battery warning light and there was a squealing sound, I pulled over and hit the kill switch straight away, checked engine oil and it was a tad below full.  Restarted the bike without problems and the two lights stayed off so I turned for home and about halfway back both lights come on again but no squealing.  What brings on the diagnostics light?  Has anybody got any ideas?

    Cheers

The diagnostic codes can be accessed from the odometer by following the right sequence.  The code I encountered was a code for low battery voltage.  I measured voltages in run and no-run situations and spoke to the mechanic in Cairns and he reckons the alternator is nfg.  Will let you know the outcome.   Found full manuals for the dynas at $7.99US from Tradebit.com.  Good value manual with good mechanical and electrical as well as diagnostics, only problem is to print the bloody thing as it is over 900 pages long.

Turns out that the early 2006 dyna's had the spline fastened to the alternator stator with screws and when they decide to come loose they let you know by destroying the alternator. The replacement part has the spline welded in place instead of screwed.
