Need some advice on what cams to use  i see that there is a lot of experience on this .Im thinking 510g cams or similar to fit up to 08 softy have been told woods cams are valve smashers to quick of adrop off .Some say Andrews is the go .So any feed back would be appreciated .Im leaving the engine stock apart from the air cleaner  pipes and exhaust which are already on the bike.

Seriously, I'm going through the exact same decision myself.............. All over the US forums the Woods TW6-6 is the "god" of cams.... but many say you need to run a 4* adv on the cam to shift the TQ to the left a little so as to not lose any bottom end TQ....... There's no doubt the make great numbers (around 100TQ / 90HP).... and if set up correctly they are not as noisey as some make out according to what I have read.

Personally, I reckon I've looked at every cam out there...... came close to ordering both the Woods 6-6 and the Andrews 54 + 4* advance.... but increases in compression and some mild headwork really compliments these cams and I don't have the $$$ right now.

I've settled for a good custom MAP on the dyno and hope that keeps me happy for a while.

If you are lookingb at TRUE bolt in look at Andrews 21, 26, SE 204 etc. Good luck.

Hey guy,s i started the last thread in regards to this very issue and i thankyou all for your input....

Now, i ended up fitting a set of SE 204 and i will say it straight....F'ing impressed...

For a start they are a straight bolt in with no other mods needed, i ride an 08 standard that isnt very standard anymore but a stock rocker with the usual pipes high flow air cleaner and power commander.

With the new cams she pulls hard all the way from 2000 to 5800 rpm and for supply and fit $1100 who could complain...i got a map from Pattersons in Bunbury and she is all boogie for the country roads....

    Needless to say, im stoked.

As a closing comment beware of forums there are alot of different opinions out there all right or wrong depending on who you talk to....do your own homework and you will be right but as for me i give the SE 204's the thumbs up...

    Good luck Patto

    G'day Berms,

Mate that was the whole lot, ride away no more to say, the push rods dont need changing, if that is quoted to you its because the installer dosent want to lift the fuel tank and the rocker covers to pull them out for the install, lazyness....

Also included were a "cam kit" which contains full roller bearing, the stock caged veriety were replaced, gaskets and a spacer kit which i have no idea where that went....anyone??

And the previously mentioned power commander Map, which i must add is a ripper...

Im running Cobra Dragster pipes and and old style S&S high flow air cleaner and like i said im stoked....

    Cheers Patto (sik08)

Walker, yeah no worries there is Roeburn, 50klms north of karrachi so you should do it easy and the Fortescue River road house after that...

    G'day Berms,

Give Mick Ball a call at Great Southern Motorcycles in Albany, Steve  is his mechanic.....highly recommended, they did my work and im very happy. Also those quotes you got do include the adjustable pushrods so its not far off the mark. As i mentioned befor, i retained the stock pushrods, it just meant that the installer had to lift the tank and rocker covers for the install, another hours labour i guess but a couple of hundred cheaper than needlessly replacing the stock pushrods...hope that helps

Berms, definately cheaper without the new pushrods, give the guys in Albany or even Supercycles in Perth a call they will verify that one, and yeah, as for the Map it is a custom Map set up to my bikes specifications, i do believe and have been told by the Maps supplier (Pattersons in Bunbury)  that for the $290 for the dyno any improvements would be marginal and that i would'nt even feel the difference so keep my money in my pocket...

.the whole point of this cam exercise for me was a cheap improvement in all round grunt and that is what i have achieved and im very very happy with. It is not as if im racing 1/4 miles or wanting to do wheel stands but for all round cost effective performance i have had a win and the difference is remarkable...

dont know why Harley dont bring them out like this

Sik, why did you choose to run someone elses map instead of getting a custom Map on the dyno?  I know it saves you money..... but I would be concerned it wasn't accurate enough???

and what did you pay for the map if you don't mind me asking?
