    Hey Dudes.

I know this subject has probably been done to death, but as the title says, but i've searched everywhere and can't find a definate answer.

As the title says, i wanna put a 180mm tyre on the back of my '89 softy.

    2 specific things i'm wondering.....

    A) will this tyre go in the standard swingarm with smaller belt or chain without clearance issues?

    B) I have some unreliable information that a 2000-06 swingarm will fit in....is this true or bullshit?

from what i've learned so far, I know that struts will have to be cut off, and pretty sure i'll need to offset primary/transmission, but not sure how much. Is there any other vital issues that i'm overlooking?

    Cheers,

    Damo

Hi damo ive got an 87 softail and am planning the same thing, ive got a guard, wheel and tyre but the tyre is a 200 so i will swap over for a 180 and run a 1 inch belt and associated pulley.

A guy on here by the name of grpawalky? posted some pics of a nightrain he did a 180 on but the photos have gone off my site PM him he has some good info.

Keep me posted on ur progress. Cheers Burnzi

Hi Damo, I gave you incorrect info it wasnt grpawalky it was grumpy cycles that did the 180 conversion, which by the look of the sign in Angry1 s garage might be 1 and the same person? Sorry to lead youa astray. Hey Angry are u Grumpy cycles if you are, i had saved the pics of the nightrain but they have deleted somehow. Burnzi

The bike looks fantastic, i remember seeing the wide rear, front wheel and the exhaust. The finished (they are never finished) project looks fantastic. Love the paint too. I thought you had used the original swingarm on the nightrain, I guess that means my 87 swingarm wont do the job with a 180 tyre and 1 inch belt?

When I get closer to starting this I will send the necessary carton of coronas. Yes?

    Cheers Burnzi

Angry1, excusing my ignorance, but why do you have to cut the fender struts?

Hey Angry, i'm very interested to know how u mounted the new guard.

Did u get some bolt-on fender struts and drill/tap the frame? Weld some on? Or a strut-less guard perhaps?

Also, as far as off-the-shelf guard options go, is a lat model hd guard relatively simple to hook up? What's the best way to go about it in your opinion?
    Appreciate ur feedback mate.

    Cheers,
