G,day...iam a newby....just purchased a 85 Wideglide been busy putting as many miles on it as possible, but too 'The offsider' for a bit of a ride out to Robinson and going up Macquarie pass was feeling some vibration.....which dont ya know was some rivit and some plonkers long bolt holding the seat on...which put a 5c wide groove down me back tyre.....so off with the guard, etc to fix....no drama but two wires for the tail and stop light popped out of the funny little numbered connector block...before i could see what numbers the buggers go in......plan to get a manual but havent yet and cant figure out how to get em both burning at once, some help on the appropriate location would be appreciated....Thanks.

Thanks Fellas, iam talking about that black connector box Burto - i noticed its numbered on top where the wires go in.....this made me think most will be wired the same, because i was juggling tail light, and trying not to scratch the guard, i didnt see where the wires came from....i did a search using a test light Kiwi, but ran out of time so thought id shout out for a hand....thanks for the heads up on the manual, i'll be getting one ASAP....at the moment its tail light or brake light, picked the brake light until i get time to sought it.

    Thanks for taking the time.

Cromag, just had a look at mine (85 WG).
The two wires, red(brake) & green(light) are connected to the 2 holes in the middle. Not sure but think its 8 & 9. red to 9(RHS) & green to 8(LHS). Hope that helps mate.
    Burto.

My 85 WG had chain conversion done before I bought it.

It's a personal choice. I prefer chain as like Kiwidave, I've had few issues with chains. (always carry a spare link and your up and running again!)
Just helped a mate convert his 93 FLHS to chain. After snapping 3 belts, he's had a gutfull!
Everyone reckons he's mad to convert!
Fuck knows why? Yes they are messier but there are good sticky chain oils around. Yes they are noisier, if you can hear it over your pipes!
Benefits- Snap a chain (rare) fix on side of road
Snap a belt, around $1000 at dealer to fix or do it yourself after removing inner and outer primary cases and swingarm, bike off the road, gotta get it home, etc. while chain rider keeps going and replaces chain at next convenient time. Coupla hundred bucks and ten minute job.
    No brainer for me!
Having said that, my new bike is belt, 2010 Fatbob, interesting to see where I'll go when 1st one snaps!

Some great points there, I definitely am a chain kinda bloke for the reasons spelled out....with that in mind any idea how difficult it would be to convert? I guess iam gonna need a sprocket, front n rear, are these difficult to fit, i assume the 1st issue is the primary, (so ill get a manual first) and then does the rear wheel belt pully mount the same as a sprocket?...if so, i wont need to change hubs either....so itll be pretty straight forward......this might be my xmas pressie to myself. Thanks again.

Cromag, mate got his conversion kit thru Rollies Speed Shop. Around $400 from memory. Give Dean a ring at Rollies, he knows his stuff! He will let you know everything you need and they deliver quick.

Kiwidave is right, properly aligned and tensioned, etc. but what fucks most belts is rocks going thru them. Rock holes in the middle of belts can last for ages but get a rock thru the edge and it will tear thru the rest of the belt in no time. The most common culprits, the loose metal when they reseal roads! As ugly as they are, belt guards are very necessary!!

And yes, no need to change until you have to.......might as well get all the use out of it!

With the chain you can run a 150 tyre, may need to watch guard strut bolts. The 150 fills the rear guard out nice!

    Have a look!

     Thanks Cromag,

shocks are Fournales Magnums, 12.5'' from memory. 19" front wheel and progressive springs makes this bike handle pretty F*ckin good!

Angry, nice bike mate, a 16" would be my 2nd choice. Gotta love them '61 Pan "gunsight" badges!
