     Ok simple questions…

At what mileage would you start using 100 synthetic oil? In a new bike? Also will using 100 synthetic oil void my warranty. I take it all 3 holes are ok to use it in…

    Thanks

    Hey Guys,

Its time to do a service on the dyna. I just tried statewide here in perth and they want $113.95+ GST for the 6qt pack. Anyone Have a better price here for perth. That seems a bit high after reading through the rest of this thread?

    HEY PHSGASIT

YOU CAN SWITCH TO 100% SYNTHETIC 20W-50 V-TWIN MOTOR OIL AT 1ST FACTORY SPEC OIL CHANGE, AFTER BREAK-IN MILES. I'D USE 20W-50 IN THE MOTOR & PRIMARY, & USE 75W-110 GEAR OIL IN THE BIG TWIN 5 & 6 SPEED TRANS. USE #1 AMSOIL OR #2 MOBIL V-TWIN, STAY AWAY FROM H-D SYN3, LUCAS OR ROYAL PURPLE, THOSE 3 RANK AT THE BOTTOM ON MOST TESTS, CHECK OUT, "WHITE PAGE STUDY" AT WWW.ENGINECARE.COM.AU, ALSO AT;AMSOILDIST@YAHOO.COM.AU, WWW.LUBRICATIONMANAGEMENT.COM.AU & FOR YOU MATES FROM NZ,; WWW.SYNTHETICOIL.CO.NZ, GOOD LUCK, TILL LATER, BE SAFE, BOSTON JIM WWW. FATZUSA.COM

PS, IN THE USA, YOU CAN USE ANY OIL THAT MEETS FACTORY SPECS, & YOU WON'T VOID WARRANTY, YOU CAN'T USE 15W-50 MOBIL CAR OIL, LIKE SOME BIRDBRAINS ON THIS FORUM DO, TO SAVE A NICKLE, THEN YOU'VE GOT BIG PROBLEMS. HEY NOODLE, HOW'VE YOU BEEN ?

    HEY PHSGASIT, YOUR WELCOME
GEAR OIL & MOTOR OIL ARE NOT THE SAME. GEAR OIL DIFFERS FROM MOTOR OIL. MOST PEOPLE ASSUME THAT SAE 90 GEAR OIL IS MUCH THICKER THAN SAE 40 OR 50 MOTOR OIL. HOWEVER, THEY ARE THE SAME VISCOSITY, THE DIFFERENCE IS IN THE ADDITIVES. MOTOR OIL HAS TO COMBAT BYPRODUCT CHEMICALS FROM GASOLINE OR DIESEL IGNITION & SHOULD CONTAIN ADDITIVES SUCH AS DETERGENTS & DISPERSANTS. SINCE AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE HAS AN OIL PUMP & LUBRICATES THE BEARINGS WITH A HYDRODYNAMIC FILM, THE NEED FOR EXTREME PRESSURE ADDITIVES SUCH AS THOSE USED IN GEAR OILS DOES NOT EXIST IN ENGINES. ENGINE OILS & GEAR OILS BOTH HAVE ANTI-WEAR ADDITIVES, & THEY BOTH MUST LUBRICATE, COOL,& PROTECT COMPONENTS, BUT GEAR OILS ARE PLACED UNDER EXTREME AMOUNTS OF PRESSURE. THEY MUST ALSO CARRY DAMAGING WEAR DEBIS AWAY FROM CONTACT ZONES & MUFFLE THE SOUND OF GEAR OPERATION. COMMONLY USED IN DIFFERENTIAL GEARS & STANDARD TRANSMISSION APPLICATIONS IN COMMERCIAL & PASSENGER VEHICLES, AS WELL AS A VARIETY OF INDUSTRIAL MACHINERY, GEAR OILS MUST OFFER EXTREME TEMPERATURE & PRESSURE PROTECTION IN ORDER TO PREVENT WEAR, PITTING, SPALLING, SCORING, SCUFFING & OTHER TYPES OF DAMAGE THAT RESULT IN EQUIPMENT FAILURE. PROTECTION AGAINST OXIDATION, THERMAL DEGRADATION, RUST, COPPER CORROOSION & FOAMING IS ALSO IMPORTANT. I USED MOBIL OIL IN BOTH MY HARLEYS 10 YEARS AGO. I'M ANAL, AFTER ALOT OF RESEARCH & SCHOOLING, I CHOOSE AMSOIL, YOU WON'T FIND ANYTHING BETTER, IT'S THE BEST MONEY CAN BUY, PERIOD. WWW.FATZUSA.COM

HEY JILLI, HOW YOU DOING GIRL ? I HAVEN'T BEEN ON THIS FORUM, SINCE SEPT 5, 3 MONTHS AGO. HOW'S YOUR OIL BEEN ? I WAS LOOKING AROUND , READIING COMMENTS, ETC. I SAW WHAT VIRTUALT POSTED, THAT ILLUSTRATION WAS FOR A 2003 DYNA, I NOTICED YOU HAD A 09 STS, I HAVE A 1999 FXSTC. THE SOFTAILS , YOU CHECK THE OIL WARM, BIKE UPRIGHT & LEVEL. THE DYNA'S & MOST OF THE TWIN CAM A'S, YOU CHECK OIL LEANING ON KICK STAND. I HOPE YOU WERE A GOOD LITTLE GIRL , WHILE I WAS AWAY, DOING DOZENS OF SHOWS & YOU READ YOUR MANUAL, LIKE PHILTHY ASKED YOU NICELY TO DO. I THINK YOUR USING OIL, BECAUSE YOUR OVER FILLING IT, YOUR BURNING IT, BURPING IT, IT MUST BE COMING OUT YOUR AIR CLEANER COVER, I WAS ON ANOTHER FORUM STATESIDE TODAY, & A MATE WAS GETTING OIL ALL OVER HIS BACK TIRE, TILL HE FIXED ONE OF THE ENGINE BREATHERS. I'M SORRY FOR LAUGHING AT YOU, LAST SEPT, BUT PHILTHY'S CARTOON GUY, WAS FUNNY. I GOT MY 1ST SNOW TODAY IN BOSTON, & YOU GUYS ARE GOING INTO SUMMER, RIGHT. BE SAFE, BOSTON JIM

Thought i might add in some feed back. I've been running Mobil 1 V Twin oil for 3500km's. I put it both the engine and g/box. I find shifting to be a little better nothing really to write home about. Engine seems to be a little quieter when cold, but on long trips and hot weather there is too much top end noise for my liking, i think i'll be dumping this oil very soon and going back to HD dino.

T1, that seems to be the general opinion with most synthetic's, it's noisier when hot than mineral.

which means its not doing what oil is suposed to be doing..... i never really had any issues with the HD stuff, i was just looking for an oil that would last longer than 4k.

I live in the nth qld area, rode to Cairns a few times (approx 1000k return trip) in the heat and further to Cooktown,Charters Towers (west of T/ville) in 40 plus deg heat and hadn't noticed any more eng noise in mine (08 Rocker) just under 30,000ks's with mobil 1  V twin in all 3 holes, no problemo. But I will listen even more now that you mention it.

To me there is a big difference in audiable noise, which is not there with the HD dino oil.

SINCE THE KOREAN WAR, ALMOST (EXCEPT VINTAGE) ALL PLANES THAT FLY TODAY USE SYNTHETIC OIL. IF YOU USED PETRO OIL, YOU WOULDN'T MAKE IT TO THE END OF RUNWAY. SINCE 1984, SUNOCO, (GOOD CO.) HAS BEEN MAKING H-D PETRO OIL. H-D SYN 3 IS MADE BY CITGO (BAD CO.) BAD PERSON (HUGO CHAVEZ) DICTATOR PRICK OF VENEZUELA. H-D MAKES MOTORCYCLES (WITH ALOT OF HELP FROM ASIAN SUPPLIERS) NOT MOTORCYCLE OIL. EVERY YEAR IT GOES OUT TO BID, LOW BID THAT MEETS SPECS, WINS CONTRACT, SIMPLE BUSINESS PLAN. H-D WANTS YOUR BIKE TO LAST THE 2 YEAR WARRANTY, THATS IT ! THERE'S 1,000'S OF BIKES NOT MAKING THE 2 YR MARK. IF YOU PUT A QT OF PETRO OIL IN A ROASTING PAN, PUT IT IN THE OVEN, YOU COULD MAKE DINO BROWNIES. TRY THAT WITH AMSOIL, IT WON'T EVEN SMOKE.
ERIK BUELL, ONE OF THE GREATEST MOTORCYCLE MINDS OF ALL TIME, WAS THROWN OUT WITH THE TRASH, AT H-D, WHEN THE NEW CEO (FROM JOHNSON CONTROLS) A NON MOTORCYCLE RIDER TOOK OVER. TODAY, EVERY NEW BUELL BIKE, IS FACTORY FILLED WITH AMSOIL

ATTENTION ALL TWIN CAM OWNERS; DO YOURSELF & YOUR MOTOR A FAVOR; GO TO WWW.J&PCYCLES.COM , & CHECK-OUT THE FORUM ARTICLE "CONCERNING FACTS ABOUT H-D TWIN-CAM ENGINES"OVER 300+ COMMENTS, NONE GOOD. THERES ALSO A FOLLOW-UP BLOG, ALMOST 300 COMMENTS. THERE'S A BIG FLAW IN THE DESIGN OF THE TC MOTOR. THERES ALSO TALK OF A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. TILL LATER, BE SAFE, BOSTON JIM, PS; GLAD I HAVE THE LAST GREAT MOTOR, 1999 FXSTC ; WWW.FATZUSA.COM

I saw an article in Heavy Duty mag,and S&S swear by Mobil 1 V-Twin. Different motors sure, but they wouldn't use an inferior oil or would they say "It's good stuff" if it wasn't. S&S have got a lot on the line by admitting that. I change my oil every 3000 k's no matter what anyone says. It's a pity Scavenger don't make an oil cleansing system for a Rocker though, bummer. I spoke to them a coupla yrs ago and they said they were looking into it.Yeah right.

    HEY PHILTHY, G'DAY

I AM ROGUE CHOPPERS NATIONAL REP, AFTER YOUR COMMENT ON THE SCAVENGER FOR A ROCKER, I CALLED PHIL, THE SCAVENGER INVENTOR, & GOOD FRIEND OF MINE.  HE SAID HARLEY'S DESIGN OF THE OIL LINES, & THE CONNECTION UNDER THE TANK IS A PROBLEM.  HE SAID IT COULD BE DONE WITH A LITTLE PATIENCE.  I HAVEN'T EYE-BALLED A ROCKER YET.  BUT, FROM WHAT I SEE FROM YOUR PIX & ALL THE OTHER SOFTAILS I'VE SEEN, DON'T YOU HAVE A FLEXIBLE SECTION MIDPOINT ON ALL THE OIL LINES.  I DON'T SEE, WHY YOU COULDN'T TAKE THE RETURN LINE OFF MOTOR, TAKE A 12" PIECE OF COPPER TUBING, WITH THE CORRECT SIZE COUPLING THAT IS THE SAME SIZE AS FITTING ON THE MOTOR, BEND COPPER TUBING OVER EXHAUST PIPES, STICK RUBBER HOSE ON TUBING, STICK HOSE IN CLEAR PLASTIC  BUCKET, WITH OZ'S PRINTED ON SIDE & DO THE SCAVENGER OIL CHANGE, PUT 32 OZ'S OF DIRTY OIL, IN THE BUCKET, ADD 32 OZ'S OF NEW OIL, YOUR WHOLE SYSTEM IS FRESH CLEAN OIL, WE DO GET ONE COMPLAINT, "CAN'T READ THE DIPSTICK, BECAUSE THE OIL IS SO CLEAN".  PS, AMSOIL #1, MOBIL #2, MOTOR & PRIMARY, 75W-110 IN BIG TWIN TRANS.  LET'S HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS !  WWW.FATZUSA.COM

PS, NEVER PULL THE PLUG UNDER MOTOR, IT'S LOCKED IN WITH RED LOCKTITE, & YOU'LL LOSE YOUR OIL PRESSURE, THAT'S THE BEAUTY OF THE SCAVENGER SYSTEM.
