hello mates, just wanted to respond to some questions & comments;  jilli, who's oil are you using, causing that rattley noise ?  andysdad, torco 20w-50 synthetic came in 3rd, behind #1 amsoil & #2 mobil in study's dated march 2006 & june 2009.  philthy, the scavenger is not a hollowed out oil filter.  on every evo {1984 - 1999] it's the exit point for the qt, of dirty oil in the motor, that the h-d factory says, is not there.  on a twin cam, the puck redirects the dirty oil back thru the motor, to the return line exit hose, because of h-d's wisdom, there are 4 different scavengers for twin cams.  308 bever, obviously, you don't get it, your still using harley stuff, & you are paying for it, the harley crap, h-d makes motorcycles, not oil, it goes out to bid, lowball that meets spec's gets contract, & right now, that's hugo chavez, dictator president of venezuela, & his nationalist oil company, citgo.  not just my opinion, just the facts !  robcig, sure, you can use 15w-50 mobil 1, why not, who's stopping you, but, will it work correctly.  what about your warranty, try explaining to your service manager, you used car oil, instead of the harley stuff.  they will do a oil analysis on motor warranty issues.  there are different additives in air cooled vs water cooled motor oils, as there are special additives in gear oil that make it much better in big twin transmissions, than motor oils.  till later, be safe, boston jim

good work noodle, you should be commended !  they have an incredible website, they supply tanker ships, generation plants, mining pits, etc., with the best oil money can buy.  it's amazing to me, that the founder of engine care, researched enough, went 1/2 way around the world to the little town of superior, wisconsin, usa, which juts into lake superior, on the canadian border, to bring amsoil back home to australia, when he could have signed up with exxon/mobil "the king of the world", on all 7 continents, says alot.  the harley oil business, will be like a piss hole in the snow beside a lemon tree.  till later, be safe, boston jim

I found a Amsoil dealer in Melbournes South east subs,  just down the road from Peter stevens Dandenong (HD dealer) and the cafe Bellini's, where some of the Melbourne HD forum rides leave from.

They only sell Amsoil oil products, mainly for race application cars and bikes,, hes got a few bike in the window, a MV Aguster and race japers.

I asked him "this oil is great for HD's as well as race bikes",,,,, he said its the best oil for any car or bike.

He said he dosnt recommend it for a new motors becouse its just dosnt show any signs of wear,, he said. do 5000klm to 10,000klm before starting to use the fully Synthetic Amsoil oil, he showed me (retail about $80 a US gallon=3.75 lt )

He said(Quote) we have had this oil in race bikes and we never find any wear,,, its that good,,, that why I dont recommend putting it in a new motor that hasnt had time to wear in and do some milage to loosen up,,,, its that good.

Next time I'm down there I'll get a card from him and contact details and post them,,,,even for the price of postage it would be worth it.

a quick reply to Buggers post

Amsoil is just one of hundreds of oils on the market that generally come out of the four big oil companies. They (amsoil) buy the base product from Exxon,Shell or whoever and then blend their own crap into it. The reason they will not tell you to use it on a new bike is because as soon as you do not use the oil prescribed by the manufacturer, your warranty is fucked. I myself am a mobil distributor and we tell all owners of new cars or bikes or trucks that we can only supply to them what is stated on their new vehicle warrenty, otherwise we become liable for anything and i mean anything happening to their vehicle. I would be asking for blochures about thier oil before buying it as like us he will be an onseller and will do his best to try and sell you a product because that is his buisness.

Im not asking anyone to buy a particular oil but just get as much information as you cam about a product before using it as oils by differant companies reporting to be the same texture or viscocity may actually contain addatives that can be very harmfull if put in the wrong type of motor

Personally speaking and only because both my harleys use the ol 4 speed ratchet lid box, i use an 80/90 synthetic in the 69 flh but I use a straight alison 50w in the pan box. When selecting oils for the gearbox (if the box is sepperate from the rest) you must take into consideration weather the oil is suited for brass bushes. A lot of boxes run them and some of the modified and even mineral oils will eat the bush over a period of time.

    Hi Guys,
This is the latest hot off the press update for Mobil V-twin 20W-50 from Statewide Oil @ 14 Beete St, Welshpool, WA. After a meaningful discussion with Statewides Sales Executive Mr Phill Lewis (0447 893 155), he informed me that he will release the 6 quart box for $103 AUD and the oil analysis will be $40 AUD. He asked that I pass the word around to all the HD fraternity, so here it is, I doubt that you will do much better any where.

    Cheers, Paul
