HEY JILLI, ARE YOU FOR REAL ?  GENUINE, WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN TODAY ?  ACTUALLY, H-D'S DINOSAUR OIL IS BETTER AGAINST WEAR, THAN SYN3.  BUT, YOU SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT AMSOIL, IN THE FIRST PLACE.  CAN'T BE BOTHERED, YOU BETTER FIND THE TIME TO READ YOUR MANUAL, FROM COVER TO COVER.  THAT UNREBUILDABLE, DISPOSABLE TC MOTOR WON'T LAST FOREVER !   I RECENTLY GOT HOME FROM 10 DAYS AT LACONIA BIKE WEEK, I WAS AMSOILS REP AT LACONIA H-D.  FIRST 5 DAYS, IT RAINED A LITTLE, THEN THE SUN CAME OUT WED. FOR THE HILLCLIMBS, AND THE NEXT 5 DAYS WERE GREAT !   GETTING BACK TO GENUINE, I MET A GENUINE NICE BIKER AT LACONIA, MIKE CORBIN, OF CORBIN SEAT FAME, HE INVITED US DOWN TO HIS STORE & FACTORY, IN DAYTONA,FL. FOR OCTOBERFEST, CAN'T WAIT.  WWW.CORBIN.COM  BE SAFE, BOSTON JIM   WWW.FATZUSA.COM             P.S.  ASK HARRY THE MECHANIC, ABOUT YOUR COLD OR HOT OIL.

Well I was laughing when I first read your bit Jilli. Being a polite way to explain it to you would be to suss out your manual. My manual tells me to check oil,how temp, when etc etc... it's in there.   My daughter just got her P's and knew stuff all about cars. I told her to read her manual. Long one short, she now checks her oil, tyres and stuff. It's not hard Jilli, especially when it's critical for the longevity of your motor, especially oil. You don't have to be smart/mechanicaly inclined, just able to read English ,it's that easy. Have a go mate, and you'll surprise yourself with what you can do to your own bike.Feels good to! Good luck.

hey jilli, i've been riding h-d's since 1963, bought my 1st one in 1967, have 2 today, every vehicle we own, bikes, cars, trucks, lawnmowers, etc., all have amsoil in the motor, it's the best oil money can buy.  stay away from h-d's petrol & synthetic oil, rev tech, royal purple, lucas, belray, etc.  i was using mobil 1 v-twin, before i discovered amsoil in 2004.  check- out  32 brand, oil study at www.fatzusa.com.  p.s. h-d's petrol oil is or was made by sunoco since 1984, & syn 3, is made by citgo, in venezuela, ruled by dictator hugo chavez, & remember, h-d had said till 2003, don't use synthetic oils in our bikes, it's ok now, that they have their own synthetic, that just meets specs.  all new buell's will be factory filled with amsoil.  erik buell, is one of the brightest bike minds of our generation, right up there with your burt munroe, glenn curtis, crocker, hendee & hegstrom {indian founders} & bill harley & the davidson bros.   till later, be safe, boston jim,  there is a amsoil oz distributor

Sounds good Jim. But I'm even more confused now. I buy a mag here in Oz and the guy in the Tech section of the mag is telling the whole world that Mobil V Twin oil is the best. He absolutely swears by it, in Primary/gearbox/motor, which is what I'm using in me Rocker. This guy knows his shit, and wouldn't be telling everyone in print if it was wrong. I'm a subscriber to the mag and he's been asked the same question lot's of times, with the same answer. "I highly recommend Mobil 1 V twin oil" or "It's the absolute ducks guts" etc etc etc. You can see where I'm coming from. So who the hell am I supposed to believe? Reading all the independent/tests/studies is so confusing because there different and they all say their right! Ha, the same as fucking religion, they all say "We're right and your wrong". I'm over it.

Read a lot of answers from said "guru" in a particular publication which I would consider suspect at the very least!

Everyone has their own opinion/agenda....................my advice for what it is worth.............use the best oil you can afford!

Mobil 1 and Amsoil are both very good oils!

Yeah Burto, I read ya. So really, there is no way at all to find out which is the best. I don't give a fuck how much it costs, which is the best one? That's why I'm asking questions about which oil to use. If the so called experts are squeezing me lemon, who the fuck do I ask? All the Viscosity/comparison tests and stuff are bullshit. One mob says one thing and the other the opposite. And then I get a million (SHITLOADS)answers from this thread, fark.  I think I'll just plod along and stick with the Mobil 1 V Twin. It's been good so far.  And it's available out in the sticks more so than the other fancy stuff.

I've still got a 100L drum of Castrol CRB 50 that I use in me '84 Softail, detergent oil. Seems good enough for the ol girl. I use Pennzoil 50 in the "69 Dresser as well, hasn't blown up yet!!!      Why would you think the said Guru is a bit suss?Without mentioning names,I thought his advice was okay? Maybe I'm wrong? Fucknose matey.

Amsoil is available from a couple of Ebay stores........one in Wollongong and the other QLD Sunshine Coast.

I would be happy to use either Amsoil or Mobil 1........but used Amsoil as my 1st synthetic mainly because it is available in 1 (US)gallon drums, instead of litre bottles like Mobil1. 1 US gallon is perfect for an oil change on the Fatbob........allowing for flushing the old oil with a "scavenger" oil puck. Leaves a little for topping up if needed before next oil change.

Not cheap!.......but when you take into account that it lasts twice the KMs as mineral, then it ain't much different. Of course if you are a low mileage rider, then it may not be cost effective.

.... good point Burto .. Yeah, wish could get the stuff in 20 litre drums...

    1 gallons = 4 qt = 128 fl oz = 231 cubic inches = 3.785411784 litres

U.S. liquid gal is defined as 231 cubic inches, and is equal to 3.785411784 litres (exactly) or about 0.13368 cubic feet. This is the most common definition of a US gal.
A liter is defined as one cubic decimetre (1 Liter = 1 cubic dm). Hence 1 Liter = 0.001 cubic m. The word "liter" came from an older French unit, the litron. The metric system used liter as a volume unit.

So.... very close to a 4 litre .. as we would normally get for our car service .. cool ~~ !!!!

hey burto, how's it going ?  you are a wiser man, than most, the wisest on this forum !  why, do i say that, because, you are the only one, i've read , that is using both amsoil & "the scavenger", {the complete oil change system for h-d's}.  you should tell forum members, your first oil change experience, using the scavenger.  you must have been amazed, at the amount of dirty oil that stays in the motor, i know i was.  it's best to do it, with a handful of friends in your garage, & look at the expressions on their faces, they can't believe all that dirty oil is left in the motor.  back in 2004, i became one of scavengers 1st dealers, now his only national rep, when i did my 1st scavenger oil change on my 1999 evo fxstc, using amsoil, my h-d manual stated there was no residual oil in the motor, well after the scavenger purged out 32 oz, of dirty oil, i thought, oh well, just one more lie from the mother factory.  3 weeks ago today, i drove the 40 miles to phil's {rogue chopper} scavenger factory & picked up 10 of each scavenger, for carlisles bikefest that weekend, i sold them all.  we were scheduled to do 2 oil & scavenger seminars a day for 3 days, but the heat index was 110*, so we had to cancell 5 seminars.  i've coined a slogan, i use in all my advertising ;  "amsoil & scavenger - as good as it gets".   hey, did you notice, i'm not yelling, i can't see what i'm typing either, be safe, boston jim   www.fatzusa.com

hey philthy, are you pissin on my lemon tree, only kidding, that was a great bike movie, & i live about 25 miles from the old indian factory in springfield, ma. usa.  do you think i should take some pixs of the old factory & post them, in memory of bert munroe, for you aussie's.  it was a indian museum for many years, recently they built a new museum next to the basketball hall of fame, & moved the indian collection into it.  anyway, you seem to be confused, as to what v-twin oil is best.  i found the website for the amsoil aussie distributor; www.enginecare.com.au, click on latest news-press release- click #2 & #23 check them out, & get back to the forum members with your results, i think noodle knows more than he's admitting to.   till later, be safe, boston jim

Thanks boston jim .. I had indeed 'sus'd' them out earlier this week.. after all there in my State.. Queensland. I've only just sent them an email.. requesting information on obtaining Amsoil... which would mean having them send me a 'bulk' quantity.. I'd probably have to get at least 20 litres at a time to make it worth while.. ???? I've asked for 'frieght' charges..

I'm more then happy to pass on information as it becomes apparent.. but this is the issue we have .. It's still not readily available.. there is very few distributors ... as mentioned prior.. I'm sure Amsoil will find a bigger nich here.. as interest and we as consumers 'ask' or demand...

Australia is a big country... 1000 miles to the nearests Amsoil Distributor to where I am...

Queensland's mainland has an area of 1,723,936 sq km.
Texas has an area of 696,241 sq km.
Therefore, Texas will fit into Queensland 2.476 times.
