Newbie TTS vs SEST and Warranty

    Hi All,

I've been reading a few threads and would appreciate some advice.  I am looking at buying the 2010 Fatboy Lo with air cleaner and V&H Twin Slash 3" slipons.  Dealer is suggesting the HD Race Tuner, (I believe this is the SEST) or is it the SESPT.

The query is, can I make adjustments myself or do I have to go to the dealer.  Dont like the idea of being tied to one workshop.

Is the TTS a viable option and if I fit one will it void my warranty?  If so, should I wait until warranty expires and then get the TTS?

Also dealer has said if I buy HD parts from USA they wont be covered by warranty here in OZ.  Anybody clarify this for me?

Sorry for all the questions but would really appreciate your advice.  I currently have an XV1700 Warrior with a PCIII but nil experience with HD apart from the odd thrill riding one or two.

    Thanks for your help.

    Firstly welcome to the forum.
Secondly can't help you with the SESPT.
I have found the TTS really easy to work with as a DIY tuner. It has a function where you can take the TTS map out of it & put the dealer map back in and the dealer would not know it has been on the bike.
Thirdly that dealer is talking shit. it is a scare tactic so as you buy the parts from him. HD warranty the bike & you are using genuine HD parts-so where would the problem be. I know of plenty of guys running around with bikes under warranty & they are buying HD parts out of US, putting them on & taking bike back to that dealer with no issues/questions on what they have put on there bikes. I would just not tell them where you got them from - if they even bother to ask.
    ENJOY YOUR FUTURE RIDE

    Cheers

The SEPST warrant from harley is only 3 months, so dont get hung up on it, it isnt worth shit. All harley accessories only have 3 month warranty. If you buy a part overseas then it will not be covered by Aus warranty. Basically HD Aus wont cover anything they dont make their 80% markup on. When it comes to warranty it is totally up to HD Aus, if they deny your claim then you will have to take them to small claims tribunal and sue them. They have all the power.

As I said, dont get hung up on warranty as it is completely useless anyhow. 3 months is a joke. The only way to get a decent warranty on HD accessories is to pay the Aus prices and get them fitted at the time of purchase of the bike. Then they are statutorily covered under the new vehicle warranty.

I think the TTS warranty is the same 3 months.

As for the warranty on the rest of the engine, well, If you buy the tuner from the USA and tune the bike yourself and make it too lean and you melt a valve or piston then you cant expect warranty to cover it. Conversely if the warranty claim doesnt relate to tuning then they really cant deny your claim.

The reason I have an S&S kit is that the Screamin Eagle and HD warranty is just so useless. S&S warrant this kit for 1 year unlimited km.
