Hi, had my 96 Heritage Softtail Special stolen 9 years ago and never bought another bike. Time to jump back on and thinking about buying a road king classic. Any recommendations as to what I should include on the bike and is there any negatives that I should be aware of.

    Cheers

Welcome to the nuthouse Max, probably should have posted this in the Tourers section, but I'll have a stab at an answer for you.

I can't see why anyone would pay the extra few thousand dollars for a FLHRC over a standard Road King.

On the FLHR you get hard bags that are lockable, alloy wheels that you don't require tubes for (easier to repair on the side of the road) You still get the ABS and cruise controll on the FLHR, so why the classic?

With the money you save you will get a set of pipes, a breather kit, and a fuel map. All of these will see a marked increase in performance, sound, and running tempretures will be lowered.

Have a look in the Tourers section for pictures of bikes that owners have optioned up and see what mods owners are doing to there rides. A set of comfortable bars would be one of the first things I would be looking for. The standard bars are too low and don't have enough reach.

    Regards Lofty

Is it best to get the handlebars direct from where I order the bike or is there a better option for accessories

    Cheers

Agree 100% with Loftybob & Phantom.
I have just gone down the same path with advice from this forum. Chose the road king standard even though I preferred the look of the classic and haven't looked back. As stated above, with the money saved by getting the standard I've done the stage 1 and also seat and bars.
If its purely a looks thing between the 2 then go with your gut feeling, but either way you won't be disappointed.

I bought my FLHRC from Geelong and both the salesman and Pop in the workshop are fantastic. I bought some accessories from mandmcycles, heaps cheaper than here.
