Saw a thread on Helmet cams a while ago but there wasnt much info in the followup. I used to use one to help young kids develop their motox skills, sometimes I could even keep up My set up required carrying a handicam in a backpack, apparently now they will record straight to a card. Anyone got one? Any good? Have heard that some are down as low as 80 - 90 bucks. I realize the quality wont win any sport awards. Would be gr8 to have a thread showin ur fav curves(THE ROAD ONE'S)

I'm actually downloading pics (stills) from the weekend as we speak. Takes ages for photies to download out here in the bush where our service isn't too quick. Getting pissed at the same time!

No, but true.... I bought this about 12 months ago, used it half a dozen times and then bought a HD Canon vid camera for general use and also on the bike.

It's on the market. Not sure how much I paid but I will check tomorrow and put it in the for sale section

Hey Magilla, can you tell us what model you have. It is straight SD card recording only.

I have a JVC 60Gb hard drive and micro SD card recorder. It never recorded to the HDD while on the bike, just the SD Card. There are some videos in the NSW rides section so you can see the quality.

The sound is not good, but at least its got sound. The problem is though, that the shaking on the bike has basically caused the HDD to fail within a month. Went over razorback on Monday morning, spent as much as I could, since all the blue boys were at Camden breath testing, and when I landed in Picton, I had shaken the camera to death. So, I am now looking for an SD card only model, which has good pic and sound. I dont want another HDD model.

You got any video on youtube yet mate? Wouldnt mind seeing the quality of your new cams video.

I have used RAM mounts. The type with the 1" hard ball and disk to mount the camera stops some of the vibration. The vibration when hard accelerating is a problem but just riding, I am not too concerned. The main vibration I get relates to the shit quality of the roads. Razorback road has specifically placed potholes to ensure that there is no smooth ride line, so it really gives the bike and therefore camera, a thorough shake to death.

Wind noise I reduced by putting tape over the mic holes, and a rubber disk inside the camera to stop the door rattle, which can be heard in the left speaker. so the sound quality is still not what I want, but at least it has sound.

The best video and sound I have heard from a youtube video in Norway from username minssykel. Enter this in youtube and the quality and sound is brilliant. This bloke has a Sony Mini DV and external microphone he puts in a bumbag behind him. Thats the quality I am trying to replicate.

Check this video out, its on of those little jobs that go straight to the card, but I don't know what make/model it is.

worth watching at the 6.40 mark as he rides into sandy creek to see how many bikes went on the ride

You could try bay or dealexteme (if you don't mind ordering from China or where ever) and grab one like this:

    cgi.ebay.com.au/Mini-DV-DVR-Sports-Video-Camera-MD80-Spy-cam-30fps-DC-/180474679307

I paid $40 all up (with a  4GB mini SD/delievery) and they work grteat for the price.  I've never helmet mounted mine, though I hear people have used velco to do so.  There's prolly a ton of videos on youtube showing the picture quality.

the new all-in one unit jobs are great, my mates have them we use them for Snowboarding.
The card is good, qaulity is OK, they all seem to use there own software though which is a real pain.
