Had a crap ride to West Head that should have been a ripper on Anzac Monday but for cyclists. Not bagging them because they are entitled to the road but there were THOUSANDS of them (not exaggerating, there must have been a special event on) with packs on both side of the road. Made even more dangerous because it was early morning with lots of shadows across the road where cyclists were stopped for a spell and couldn't be seen until you were right on them.
I was impressed by the courtesy of most of them who moved to single file when they heard you coming but lots just stayed in a pack, even though they were struggling uphill and they could tell there were so many coming the other way that it was impossible to overtake.
A stressful ride, with lots of hairy moments, but the scariest was when a jappa overtook me at about 130 ks (it's an 80 zone) on a blind corner and I spent the rest of trip dreading what I was about to see if he came to grief amongst all those cyclists.
Courtesy and common sense go a long way towards avoiding tragedy. And too many innocent riders (not just cyclists) get hit by other motorcyclists out of control. What a bloody war zone it was.
Sounds like a case of "strong in the legs and weak in the head" for some of those cyclists.
The jappa rider is obviously weak in all departments.
The pedal pushing poofters were parading in their pansy pants all over the pucking place on the public holiday Monday.
They were rife the the National Park, every corner had a string of them idling along the narrow road.
For anyone who remembers the two puckwits in the Lotus on Putty Road (LOT005 the blue one). Saw one of the puckwits pulled over by the poolice in the park.
Ha-rdy fucking ha. Karma's a bitch.
My worst moment came in a fast down hill run with a lot of twisties which I thought I was handling pretty well when I glanced in the mirror and saw I was being tailgated by a couple of cyclists. Bloody humiliating. I really had to gun it to spare my pride but it took a climb to shake them off. These blokes are doing serious speed on skinny tyres and wearing the next closest thing to lingerie, and the government wants scooter riders to wear full protection. Huh???
Had the same experience a few weeks back on a breaky run down to Meadows. There were thousands of the bastards on a run from Glenelg to Victor Harbor. Just when you thought you'd cleared them all another group would appear. They were taking up the whole lane, so only option was to keep over taking them. They have a right to use the road but I would've preferred avoiding them all together.
Impossible situations.
It reminds me of one where a steep and winding road was full of cyclists that were breaking the speed limit going down the mountain, passing us at break-neck speeds and whooshing past that close we had to pull our elbows in for fear of hooking one up.
Thought about cranking it up to keep pace with these dudes but the two cops on pushbikes had already lined us up for a ticket as soon as we stepped out of line.
Really buggered up what we thought was going to be top line putt down the hill, the worst was that we had to do a 180 at the bottom and work our way back up through the reverse scenario.
Think it was just a weekend thing .
Never again.
Well as a motorcyclist & regular cyclist its interesting to see the variation in attitudes from one group of two wheeled road users towards another. Quite a few of my cycling friends also ride m/cycles, Ducati's, Harley's, Suzuki's, BMW's etc. We as a group of cyclists generally tend to bag curse only tin top looney's but hardley ever, in fact I have never heard anyone bagging m/cyclists for their attitude to cyclists. In fact many of my cycling friends who do not have m/bikes would also love to have one but some of us can only have so many toys. So anyhow I reckon anything on two wheels is good fun & Dragon I don't suppose there is any room in there for a bit of live & let live amongst all that huffing, pucking, panting & getting hot under the collar
