Fork Seals Change - 08 Street Bob

    Howdy All,

While my engine was getting built I thought the timing was right to powder my fork lowers. Pulled'em apart - no drammas. Got the new fork seals and dust seals while I was at it. Made up my own fork seal tool using a 55mm high pressure pipe. Installed fork seals - no probs. Used little grease to make sure they go in nice'n'easy. Filled em up with fork oil, took the bike for a ride. Coming back, I've noticed a very slight oil/grease film on fork sliders just above the dust caps.  I've visually inspected the fork/dust seals and it all looks OK.  So what gives? Could this be a light oil from the grease I've used during the fork seal install? Or my fork seals are leaking? If they are leaking, than what did I do wrong? I know that the retaining ring will not fit in, unless the fork seals are in properly.

Any advice would be greately appreciated.

    Cheers

As Stix said mate it will probably settle.

Just a trick that you may already know....

Grab a tear off (Motocross helmet, speedway helmet or similar) which is thin clear plastic.  Cut a neat strip about 11/2 wide by 4 inch long and run it down into the seal and move around the entire circle.  If you have some excess grease or maybe dirt this will move it out and you should have nothing else appear.
