Auto indicator cancellation

For give my ignorance but can anyone tell me what causes the auto indicator cancellation on a 1993 Sportster?  I changed my bars & stuffed around with the indicators and since then they have stopped cancelling themselves.  I don’t use them very often and on the occasions I do, I forget to turn them off.  I feel like a right dick riding along with my indicator going.

I could do that or a wire directly from the indicators to my left nut....lol

If you've also changed the indicators for smaller versions, you may not have enough current draw on the flasher circuits for the self canceller to work. You should fit a ballast module if you've gone to the smaller indicators. The self canceller works from the alarm system's tilt module and also a speed to time circuit.

there is a reed switch in the speedo, connected via a white/green wire to the indicator module
it receives the info, and then determines which set of parameters to use
The idea being that the indicators flash for about the right amount of time, despite speed distance variations

Thanks for the info, I think I have caused two problems.  I changed my tank wich included a tank speedo so the original one has gone.  Also I removed the original small dash with the indicator directional lights.  When I did that I removed the wires from the indicators to the dash indicator lights which, from what you have explained, might have the same effect as smaller indicators.

Looks like I will just have to put up with it unless anyone has any ideas.
