Hello all. My name is PaulK, member of the MRA here in SA. I have been given the task to chair the sub-comittee on the "Serious and Organised Crime (Control) Bill 2007" or more commonly know as "The Bikie Bill".
I know some of you don't feel much kinship with the MRA or the rest of us riders, but on this one we MUST act as one with one voice. If ever there was a time for unity - this is it.
Just FYI, I am a drop-out law student (hence this job) and I have been working 7 days a week now for months on this issue alone. I usually awake about 6am and often don't get to sleep before midnight. Not always on this Bill, but it weighs heavily on my thoughts 24/7.
This Bill, as many of you are aware, is not just about "Bikies" - it attacks the very foundation of our society, dispenses with rights and freedoms and WILL affect ANYONE [the government (Attorney-General), the Police Commissioner (or his deputies..) or the DPP] see fit to declare.
I have really put my neck on the line with this one (I am expecting a reply from the Attorney-General delivered by the boys in blue) and it would appear that I have really upset the power brokers of this state government just recently (yet again!)
So far, the Bill could have been passed 3 times, but again the government gave no reason for placing it on hold yet again. It may be because of the "backroom" pressure we are delivering (not seen by the general population or the biker community) but we don't care as long as it doesn't go through.
I have managed to [finally] get some Federal intervention and the Attorney-General has been asked to give an explanation to the Fed Rep. I think this has REALLY pissed him off.. hence why I expect a reply in blue.
If anybody has any questions or thoughts on this matter I would be only too pleased to reply, here in the forum or privately if you would prefer.
PLEASE remember we MUST work together on this one. United we stand... and all that.
Welcome to the forum PaulK, from Adelaide as well. You'll deffinately find plenty of discussion on your chosen topic on this forum. Many of us have had first hand experience on the subject as I'm sure you have read in other posts.
Thanks people! Sometimes I have felt a bit like I'm living on a desert island.. Still, am having a bit of a rest at the moment - going for a ride tomorrow - fuckit. Right now we have to wait and see what comes of it all. I was told this afternoon (by a friendly pollie) that the gummint will nor be tabling this next week as they have to get the Workcover deal through by Thursday! (I hope none of you are on Workcover...)
Really though, I do think we have tilted the odds in our favour. At the very least the bastards are going to have to do some serious reviews. What made me REALLY mad is when the Attorney-General justified his stance to the other A-Gs (about a month ago in the Barossa Valley) as this is all "a social experiment!!! I saw fkkn red!!! How dare he, or any politician, use their electorate as an EXPERIMENT!!!
Peoples lives and freedoms are at stake so he can EXPERIMENT?? I'm fkkn WILD about this.. alsmost makes me wanna join the Jihad and become a Mossie.
Oops, I'd better calm down.
You know, this is the first time in my life I have ever stood up for anything that is not my personal concern. This is all just SOOOooo wrong.
Good Luck
And Welcome to the site
I hope you can get this bill sorted out before it spreads like a virus, along with the big blue gang, and takes over the country and our freedom. Good luck.
Hey Tapey.. Thanks. But it's not just up to me! But you're right about one thing, it will spread to the rest of the country if we can't stop it. I remember at the Attorney-Generals' meeting here recently (where Atkinson explained it to them as a "social experiment" some of them said it was draconian (UNDERSTATEMENT if ever there was!!) but then some of them said they would wait ansd see what happens here first before deciding whether to introduce it in their state.
So yes, they will take it to other states if they think they can get away with it. That makes our fight here national in my books..
That's why I keep saying --WE-- need to be united as motorcyclists (regardless of color breeding or bike).
What can YOU do about this in other states?
My suggestion is that you email your local state politician about your concerns of what is happening here. (You might have friends or family in SA for example, or you might be a regular visitor).
Go to the MRA SA website/forum and copy off my letters I Have drafted if you want. Edit them to suit your particualr concerns if need be.
General info about this crap here: http://www.mrasa.asn.au/html/safety/bikie.shtml
More specific info on our forum here: http://www.mrasa.asn.au/forum/viewforum.php?f=18
and go to whichever thread ("Wanna Talk to a pollie" for example)
You could ALSO write to your Fed member asking how your rights as an Australian citizen are being protected and cite this SA bullshit as an example. ( This is a classic example of why we need a goddam Bill of Rights like the Yanks do.)
Thanks everyone for your kind words and support - I really do appreciate that.
One reason why I joined this Forum is because the HD owners are probably at the "coal face" of this - you people are the ones being targeted - in the FIRST instance...- regardless of whether you are a "bikie" or not ( just reading the threads shows that!).
But even "bikies" have rights and MUST be given the same opportunity as anyone else. If someone does the crime they'll do the time, that is not exclusive to "bikies". So why should a big bad "bikie" not have equal representation at law just BECAUSE he's a big bad "bikie"??
As you say, next it will be anyone that rides a Harley, then after that anyone who rides a moped, then anyone in another political party who opposes the sitting government, then people with black hair...
{..man... I get angry so easily...}
hi Paul... welcome to the forum.. I am a member of MRA in WA. Just hope your organisation in SA is not as fcuked as ours here
All the best with your endeavours... keep up the good work
