SYNTHETIC or MINERAL

I think you will find it is appropriate to run some mineral oil, to run your motor in, but who swears by the synthetic stuff. And do you find your motor runs cooler, also do you take longer change intervals?

    Hi Ragel

I changed to Amsoil after first service and detected a destinct temp difference (lower)  and the motor is not as noisy, PC111, pipes and aircleaner upgrade also helped. I change oil at the required intervals as the manual prescribes. I don't think that the buildup of contaminants is any diferent with a synthetic.

My 2 cents,I think there is no doubt synthetic is a better oil but I continue running Mineral because I prefer to change my engine oil & filter every 4000km, and although I understand you dont have to change that often with synthetic it just doesn't sit right with me.I think it would be a waste to change syn every 4000km and it is not always readily available.

After 20,000km I changed to AMSOIL. My Super Glide ran smoother and cooler. I change oils and filter at 10,00km intervals. I have just changed at 40,000km and all seems ok. With 10,00km between services there is plenty of time to stock up before the next change is due.

Yeah I probably worry too much, but the only way I can discover any problems hopefully before they get too bad is to keep an eye on the oils. Leaving things alone for 10,000km seems a bit long to me,and I think changing the filter is  just as important as the oil. Any way when one of our bikes shits itself then we will know who was right
