Just got back last night from the trip to Perth. Great trip, had some good weather & bad, bike ran like a dream & the body held up in all departments. The bike looks the part now covered in road shit & locust splatter from near Mildura on the way home, the report is coming up with some piccies, but don't get exited for the pics, I am not a photographer & the road is pretty flat from here to there.

    Day 1
Very late start, especially given that I had intended to start the day before on the Wednesday. So I got away at about 2.00pm on Thursday the 25th Mar.

Here is the Sportsta at the war memorial at Monument Hill, Albury polished & headed to the west.
The weather was perfect & the road was good & I really felt invigorated to have a huge ride (for me) ahead, albeit a little bit straight & potentially boring.
I took the route on the North side of the River Murray cos Google told me it was the quickest to Adelaide, and it probably was. I stopped at Mulamein that night at a nice little cabin in the local c/van pk.
Cheap, clean & the owners were very friendly, they had just moved from Mackay 3 wks before. Had a meal at the local pub & the meal was not cheap & it was really crap, fish & chips, for a town that appeared to give itself a rap as being a fishing town (on the Edward River) bad fish & chips at the pub is not a good look.
For my navigation I just printed out Google maps from here http://maps.google.com.au/maps?hl=en&tab=wl
This was a bad move to save a little bit of money, as depending on what zoom you print out your map at it leaves out some towns but with no noticeable reasoning. So I needed somewhere to stay cos of light & fuel but Moulamein was not on my map, good job I asked some locals in Deniliquin.
    Next stop Adelaide!!

OK I will work out how to get better images in here soon.

    Dermie

Was wondering if you are the guy I was talking to at the motel in Morgan 9/4. I was talking to a guy who was riding back from Perth heading home to Albury. I was on the way home from off road buggy race at Hyden. If so, glad to hear you got home without eating too many hoppers. Had to stop the truck twice before Ouyen to clean windsceen as could see jack.

Yes that was me, I hit those hoppers also just beyond Mildura, had me ducking behind my little screen quite a few times to avoid them on my head, cos I would never have got my visor clean after them. But it got worse as I got nearer to home in the Yarrawonga area - but you will have to wait till I write up day 11 which was the final day of riding when I got home.

Hey Dermie, I did the Melbourne - Perth run last year on an Ultra and it was an awesome exeprience but I do not think I would do it again in a hurry.

I only havd 10 days, so I did it in 4 days and averaged 1200 klms a day and two days rest.

Hope you have an awesome time and look out for the Camels on the Nullabor.

    Cheers,
    Mal'
