I want abit more grunt out of my 2007 Night Train. I was looking at a thundermax with autotune but reading alot of feedback on this forum made me think twice. Had a look at SEPRT, yeah half the price but user feedback isn't that great either. I see most on this forum go with the TTS. My thing is that I have a fairly high pressure job and don't have the time to be tinkering with the tuning etc & at this stage not planning any major upgrades. I have S&S slash cut pipes, looking at putting a K & N RK-3910 high flow A/C. I need something that when I get a chance I can get on the bike and go. Not to worried about the price more about getting the best out of the bike.......at this point.....major upgrade in about 2 years time.

So, what do you think I should get?

IK I am like you just want to get on and ride my bike instead of the laptop - and the thundermax auto tune has served me very well in the last 2yrs

the TTS didnt exist in its present form when I put in the thundermax but as I understand it - it is just a race tuner that is a fair bit more flexible

I think you can only buy them from the states - and I would say that most dyno tuners would be able to set this up for you

    ride safe .....

IK Im thinking the Thundermax, M+M says its the best unit on the market, set and foget, its tunes itself as you ride.

The Thundermax is a good unit I had one on my Sporty after doing the 883/1200 conversion.  But I did have problems with pinging that I had to resolve manually.  So while they say the Thundermax auto-tunes it doesn't auto-tune everything.  And this is where I've heard that the TTS is better.  I believe it has a knock sensor  as you're still using your factory ECU whereas the Thundermax does not because it's a replacement for your factory ECU.

If new bikes came with a readily and comprehensively adjustable ECM, then it is hard to imagine anyone wanting to buy any type of "replacement hardware" type tuner, as the stock ECM is so very reliable.
You would think that most would just use the adjustability that was on offer.
The factory addresses this dynamic by offering a "software interface" that does allow for the ECM to be "somewhat adjustable", but not to the extent that many would like, or need for their particular application(s).
So the mindset of a need to fit additional hardware items has (somewhat) remained.
With the advent of Mastertune, full adjustability is available.
Anyone thinking along the lines of "I am only making a few minor changes" might want to consider that the Mastertune program is certainly suitable to be used in a similar vein to a number of other "replacement" tuners, in that you are able to load a preset calibration(just like a power commander, for instance), and do no more, should you so choose(and this is very easily and quickly done). There is no need to compromise reliability with additional parts, and no need for any installation costs either. And, amazingly enough, the start price is also less.
As time goes by, it is (hopefully) likely that there will be a wider range of starter calibrations available, thereby encouraging more HD owners to have confidence that it will be "easy".

As a point of note, I see the issue of establishing a large bank of starter calibrations as being key to the ongoing success of any tuner of this nature. I know that (theoretically) you send your map in(via the link on the TTS site), and it gets reviewed, and then(if suitable) included on the website. I would have imagined by now there would be many "custom" maps, but I am not sure there has been any significant change at all in that area(though perhaps there has, and I just cannot see it), and I have to admit I was thinking that there would have been by now.

Dynarider - I agree, I would have expected to see more maps on the TTS site if people have been sending their maps in. I have noticed that some of the aftermarket suppliers have been doing this. Go to the Kuryakyn site and look up Mastertune http://www.kuryakyn.com/index.cfm/go/Home.ProductDetail/IMID/1620 and you will find custom maps for different builds. Pehaps Steve Cole can let us know where there are more maps we can consider.
