Engine Temp

Ok ... this might be a retarded question, but I am going to ask anyway!

When you ride away your stock HD from the dealers you notice a certain temp from the engine and surrounding area, then after a couple of weeks you go down the road of upgrades, you change your air cleaner, exhaust and flash the ECM... irrespective of which tuner you use, (ie TTS, SERT, SEPST, PC3 etc)

Now the engine temp will obviously change as the thing breaths better and produces a few more ponies, my question is if the bike runs smoothly enough and "behaves itself" (eg, no abnormal decel pops, etc) would the  engine temp and surrounding area be similar to the stock temp or would it run hotter anyway because of the changes?

Would the ECM need to be modified to correct this or would this be acceptable and not reduce the life of the engine (top End)?

    Cheers,

Thanks for your input gmeikle, I have a 2008 FXSTC, just installed S&S slip ons,, next week will do the air cleaner. I was considering using the Xied you mentioned, but after alot of reading of posts, think that the TTS is the way to go...

I was asking because I noticed the headers blueing up more and advancing towards the exhaust clamp... stopped now but I can certainly feel the temp rise in the motor. Any idea how long (assuming moderate riding) before damage may occur to the engine?

Whilst I really would like to do all the upgrades at once, its finance which is preventing an all out conversion.

At least the bike sounds better!

    Cheers...
