Sorry trying to find to right spot! I'm new.

i've just recently bought a brand new XLN883, cool bike.  But, about 160kms into wearing it in, it started making a strange noise.

Hard to describe but its like a metallic noise, like a tiny bell ringing. Anyway, took it to my local dealer. He said "all sounds pretty normal to me, just put pipes on it"

So i just kept riding it, now has 1600kms, coming up to first service. Noise is still there, now i notice if i hold the revs or decelerate, the engine noise is horrible.

I'm afraid their going to say the same thing, "just put pipes on it".

Been reading up about it, everyone says the same thing. Dealer says its ok, just live with it.

I know the Evo's are noisy, but surely not like this. Anyone come across this.

    Cheers.

New owners/riders are notoriously paranoid about every little noise, but that's not to say you're wrong. Where is the noise coming from? If you rev the bike in neutral is the noise still there? Look it the area and see if something might be vibrating - hold it, or tape it, see if the noise goes away. Also, if you know someone who rides a similar bike get them to listen to it.

I remember a mate's bike having a "ringing" noise and it was the end of a metal clamp (I know they have a name, but I can't think of it) vibrating - one quick bend and the noise was gone.

    Ironman,

It sounds like your bike is still in stock condition, ie no pipes or air cleaner upgrade. So what I would do it go to another dealer if possible and test ride one their Irons and compare it to yours. If the noise doesn't exist on the test model then I'd keep on to your dealer about resolving the noise. Or take it to another dealer, any dealer will honor your warranty. If there is a problem I wouldn't let it rest.
