Went to Luddenham for a coffee this morning
and on the way back stopped off at Sys Liverpool.
Interestingly, there was a white Harley decked out
with cop lights / strobes and sirens.
I thought it was an import from the states and was wondering if it was for sale, toying with the idea
of buying it and harrassing some of my mates.
Apparently, I wasnt the only one toying with the idea, the NSW Police are thinking of issuing Harleys to their guys
( minus the screamin eagle exhaust and heavy breathers ).
I think they're looking at comparable resale values at the auctions - there must be some smart accounts in the NSWPD.
Never know.........they might just get bitten by the bug and come over to the dark side !
HAS ANYONE ELSE HEARD THEY WERE GOING THIS WAY ?

Never heard of this before, NSWPD just moved to Yamaha FJR1300A as their bike of choice, dumping the BMW's.
Reason they moved to the FJR is that the BMW's had no speed or handling when it came to chasing the "Rossie wannabee's" so I don't think they would move to H-D's in mass, maybe as a promo bike but not operational.
Have to say, as an ex- FJR owner, they are a fnatastic bike and I miss mine, it is without a doubt the best bike I have owned, only sold me cuase my knees are fucked thanks to the 84 yr old dh that hit me with his 64 jag - bastard!!!!
Cheers

I think it was around 1982/83 when WA Police bought about 20 H-D's for traffic patrol,
They reckoned that bikes were not being used for high speed pursuits and that the resale value was better that anything else around.
I believe the bikes were sold to the WA police with a buy back scheme in place to stop HD's from being dumped on the AU market and lowering the resale value. Probably a good thing for the current owners back then.
WA Police had a fleet of FXRPs that were all sold off at auction in about 1990ish. Most were picked up by dealers at the time for pretty cheap and went on the market in Perth at over the next couple of years at "normal prices" making the dealers a profit.
There were apparently a fair few reliability issues - particularly electrical dramas after the cops hung all sorts of sirens, lights and radios off the standard electrical system.
They don't have any Harley's in WA at all and in fact all but a couple of the current Police bikes - ST 1100s are being sold off due to cost v patrol value as well as safety concerns with 1 man patrols.
