Old mate went through a giveway sign without even slowing down and took me out . Claims he didn't see me . Got the green light for repair but at least 12 weeks wait for parts
Roughly 12.5k repair bill .insurance paying for it all so happy with that .
Still has a full tank of fuel in it didn't get to 100 kms of ride time .

Feel your pain! Had my brand new Street Glide 1 day, took the Mrs for a ride up the mountain, parked the bike, came back 20min later to hear the alarm going off and the bike laying on its side like a big fat girl. A passer by told me a woman had tried to reverse into the spot, hit the bike and just drove off....3.5k damage. Good thing was i could still ride it while we waited for the parts. Was insured with Famous, they paid the claim then tried to double my premium for a not at fault claim....went to Youi

Mate ..so I have video evidence of the crash and the cops charged old mate for failing to give way .I was messed up on the ground and emergency services were working on me .I got the old mates details from the cops but not his insurance details ...now ..because I cannot give my insurance his insurance details I have to pay the excess and loose my no claim bonus .why ..because of liability..they at this stage have no avenue of getting the $$$ back so guess what ... the address he gave ...well he doesnt live there ... he is a very very wealthy man .. I'm fact more $$$ than a bull can shit and he has blocked me and the misses from his phone ... all i am chasing is his insurance and you would be forgiven to think this of all things should be simple .. you would think

i would have thought that simply providing his details were sufficient, it would be the same as someone who was uninsured. Your insurer would take the excess from you and chase the other party, insured or not. Its not up to you to chase the other parties insurance details up.

Pj, shit to hear mate and hope you make a full recovery.
Have to ask though, if you got the offenders details from the police,  how could the Insurance mob question you, surely refer them to the officers that were there. If they can't check an address etc, what hope does a citizen have?
Hope it all works out mate

Not sure about any other state, but in Vic there is no onus for the other party to supply insurance details.  Only name, address, registration details.  Road Safety Act 1986 Section 61.  Therefore not your issue or need to chase insurance details up of the other party.  I imagine any other state would be similar.  Google is your friend there.  I would be talking to the insurance Ombudsman that might change their attitude.  Good luck

I am with you binnsy....i am insured and if they aren't and its their fault its my insurers problem. If i am insured and they are regardless whos at fault its my insurers problem, provided of course the usual exclusions of drink driving, drugs etc.
In today's climate of cotton wool culture, i would not be surprised if you rang/emailed/texted or just spoke to the "other" party they would scream harassment, intimidation, stalking, mental trauma just to deflect so you go away.

Many thanks to all who have responded and offered advice
I think I have had a win as all I am required to supply is old mates rego  and licence etc. Nothing about his insurance .
So what I have confirmed they will and try one on you and say hunt down these details however that's why they have investigators whose job it is to source this . Didn't help old mate having a dodgy address but not my problem.
Anyhow it's sorted so they can tongue punch  my ort as far as I'm concern .
    Again may thanks all

Removed the lowers and fanged it. Heaps better air flow no buffeting at all even at 160 into strong head wind.
