as some know , i just took the hetitage from Sydney to darwin.  Great ride and just wants me to do more.  Was thinking bout moving onto a bagger , but the BMW1200GS from all reports is a mighty fine machine for the long distance trips on all roads.  anyone got one in their garage ?

hard to admire a harley when you are sitting on top of it .... i figure it will be much the same with a 1200 GS

I've had 3 x 1200 GSA's, and 1 x 1200GS. The Adventure model has better suspension travel, and far superior tank range (600-700 km's) If you were traveling solo and didn't want to travel far between fuel stops then the plain jane 1200GS will do the job. The shaft drives are great for gravell road touring, and they love bumpy roads (read very comfortable)

Have ridden around Aus a few times on these and never had a single problem.

Having said that, I love my Road King to bits and have clocked up 15,000 Km's in 5 months. Try both, then decide on what you like.

Hey , tks for that Lofty . why 4 bikes ? i heard that the motors on these are known to do several hundred thousand ks without too much trouble at all . i also understand that these things are very stable at highway speeds

BTW i have been considering a RK ( the 2010 model upgrade is fab ) and i rode one in January granted though it was only a short trip in sydney. my first impressions was top heavy in traffic and not nearly as nice to ride as the Heritage BUT on the open road i KNOW that is a different story altogether. BUT cause i ride 7 days a week between my 2 bikes , i reckon the RK would become the odd weekend / long trip ride only and i dont want to put money into a bike that i dont like riding regularly. i keep coming back to the 1200GS as the all rounder so if i want to take a dirt track i can .
