2006 heritage softail pinging

    Hi there
    First time posting on this forum, hope you can help please.
    My bike seems to have a tinny pinging sort of sound coming from it. Usually when I pump the throttle hard under load or even when up to higher speed ( 140- 150 kph ).
    I have a stage 2- 95 cubic inch bore kit in it ( which was put in at 16k ) Also have a dyno power commander added to it.
    They couldn’t sort the tinny pinning thru the dyna tuning.
    I’ve added octane boost to my fuel which eliminates the shit sound at times.
    Nothing appears to be loose on the bike.
    Do you have any ideas.

    All i know is that when the stage 2 kit was fitted...that they done ECM callibration. Shall ring them later & ask.  When dyno tuned with power commander...they said that compression was 175-185 psi & said might be too high. They feel that the ignition timing should be set less aggresive.  Can timing alter after being done.  I'm no bike mechanic & the mechanic that done my stage 2 kit & ECM callibration suggested to try the octane boost. But that doesn't actually fix the problem completely hey.    At present i have done 60'000 km's on bike.  Pings with out power commander connected also. Can't really recall when pinging started. Before power commander added though i think.

    Fuck. Went for ride the other day. Added octane boost high performance to tank. Bike just seems to have this tinny shit sound all the time when accelerate now. Hard to explain when  ya not riding it yaself. But at full throttle was lucky to just creep past 160k.p.h as well..with the shit tinny sound coming from it. Bike used to go pretty well till got power commander added & dyno tuned...could it be anything to do with cams. Just lost. Any other ideas that could take to mechanic please. Cheers

    cloud what fuel do you run 95 98 ? BP shell mobil ?????

    my 05 used to ping alot found that it did not like shell fuel ...... i try to run mobil or bp 95 mostly and occasioanaly 98 and it dont ping no more ........

    also sus ya plugs out ........ because it did do it once after that mate said something was wrong with plus after replaceing them it stoped again ...

    I dont know fuel from cordial but mate of mine say's if he dont run caltex premium his 2009 fatbob pings like crap.

    I mainly put vortex 95 premium in my bike. & have put 98 in & still no different. I've tryed diff. spark plugs...Could it be something to do with the timing. As i say it was going good till the power commander was added & the crew that done it i wasn't impressed with at all...because that is whn it went to shit.
    Took it to another dyno tune joint & got it remapped...went great..but still slight pinging sound when opening up throttle under load. Took it back & he added more fuel through the commander hoping to eliminate the ping. Bike still pinging.
    Rang him & he said that " stock calibration with fuel trimmed by power commander could be better if ignition timing less aggressive. !!!
    He'd never come across this prob. before.
    -UCKED if i know. The mechanic whom does my services etc on bike. Said to try the octane boost..which i have.

    Scotty; How ya goin today. I disconnected & removed the power commander yesterday. Going to take bike for a blast on my next day off & c how it goes. Might try that spray bottle of water in the intake as you have suggested....a few people have advised me not to; So are you certain that this won't do any damage?? also how much spray & where will this carbon go. Cheers

    Thanks for the feedback you have passed onto me champ...yep i'll be trying the misty spray job for sure & c what comes out of it. Appreciate your replies & advice on the matter. Will let ya know how all fan's out. Cheers & have a good one.

    have you tried a different fuel .........

    caltex fuel is crap it's to do with the additives .... try bp or mobil fuel....

    ppl say it is all the same but it is not, different companys use different additives in there fuel
