hi all , if i could just ask anyone,s opinion on which ignition system is the better between the Crane Hi-4 single fire  or theDyna 2000. I have a 98 fxdwg with a 42mm Mikuni and would like to upgrade the ignition, or if anyone has a better product other than those

I'm also in the process of getting one of these and not sure which is better.  I'll be speaking to the mechanic at Eastern Big twin this week so I will let you know what he recommends too.

    G'day Steve,
I've got a dyna 2000i running in my 89 Heritage Evo, no problems with it, easy to install, set and forget.
The Crane unit is also a good one as Dave pointed out, plus it has the benefit of a kickstart setting ( and yes Dave I do miss that !!)
Main thing I think is $$$. Look around for a bargain. I picked up mine for under $200 including 2 coils from USA eBay.
    Regards,
    Cris

Well i spoke with the mechanic today steve60. He says that both of them are good products but they tend to favour the Crane hi-4 because it is easy to tune etc. But once again says that they are both good produts. Also he told me that todays fuel quality is heaps worse than it was years ago. When our bikes were manufactured in the mid 90's the stock ignition was adjusted to suit better quailty fuel. Therefore its a good idea to upgrade the ignition so that they can adjust the power curves to suit todays fuels. My bike has an S&S e series carby and s/eagle slip ons and he told me that I should upgrade the ignition to get the bike performing at its best with these basic mods. Sounds like your bike is similar - as you have upgraded the carby but not the ignition. Hope this helps a little.

Should also tell you that they usually fit a brand called Ultima (i think its that or something like it). I 'm pretty sure he said it's made by Dyna but different packaging and they sell it for $560. Mate I would recommend giving them a call if you want. The owner Brian is unbelievable with his knowledge and his a bloody nice bloke too.

The ULtima Kit is a Single Fire that is Programmable that has it own Pick up and Module in one that sits in the Crank Nose Cover. Yes that are made by Daytona Twin Tech and are Very Good , I sell them for $395.00 with Coil and Leads.
The Crane HI-4E Set Up runs of the Stock Pick Up and only replaces the Stock Module that is under the Seat

I like the Ultma,,, Crane is a little out dated,,, thats just my opinion . I sell all 3 Brands, but more of the Ultimas, thats why Im trying to clear the Crane Kits.

Are the Ultima easy to fit? What about getting the settings right - do you need to get a dyno after you fit it?

since i put the mikuni on i think it is running a little lean, i pulled the plugs out and they seem like white and not a nice tan colour, but dark up near the thread of the plug, but the pipes have a nice colour to them, so i went to see the bloke with the dyno up the road and he said what you said waza  about the shit fuel we get these days, also told me i should have got an S&S E series, but too late now, i,ll stick with the mikuni, Thanks Walka but i,m still none the wiser, i,m even more confused which one to buy, probably the ultima , i will let you know
