I've got the missus  blown up basket case '86 1100 in me shed and i want to do it up to go up to the top of qld. Creeks, rivers, ravines, rocks, jungle bunnies etc. definitely not road bike country, except on a modified sporty of course.  The motor can be done up to stock? But the tricky bit would be front fork length, how much over stock would do? Rear shocks, which ones?  Any suggestions  big mob helpful.

Sounds like a great trip philthy, there is of course two Harley type of models that would be good for this sort of trip that I know of, the Buells & there was a Harley 750 flat track or dirt bike. There is also the guy who has just done the big jump in Sydney. I personally don't have a clue but there must be enough resources out there to help you achieve what you want to do. There is obviously not much resource here as I am your reply.

    Hey There
To be honest the trip all the way up the peninsula is nothing like it was only a few years ago. I crossed the Wenlock river at its shallowest point some years ago on a H*nda XR 600, and found little else would have been as suitable for that crossing, as it was very wide and quite deep. But now they have a good crossing there,so, as long as you do the trip in the dry season, the only major obstacle you will face is the endless dirt, dust and corrugations. Sure you will come across sudden patches of sand on the main road, which can be an issue at 120km/h. So if you can give the bike enough clearance to have some form of off-road tyres, and have a long range fuel tank, your real issues with riding will be quite minimal. That is all as long as you stick to the main route. There is certainly the opportunity to take far more interesting side trips, and routes, but the truth remains that the main track is not as daunting as you might anticipate. But please.... photos of a Sporty at the Tip would be loved by many here, especially me

    Good luck

That's all it looks like is needed. Looks like a stock frame.  I think the orange HD race colours would make it go faster!!   My biggest problem is getting someone reliable to do up my motor. The Kneeslider looks spot on. I've actually got it as my screen saver.

I've got a sporty fatbob tank and the fuel stops are situated in about the right spots up there. Going by the map anyway. Plus a backup ute with jerry cans and crap. She'll be right.
