Help me choose...

    Hi guys

My wife and I recently joined the HD fold - I bought a 2009 Dyna Street Bob and she bought a 2009 Sportster Custom 1200. We've been riding the bikes for a few months now - really enjoying them - with stock exhausts etc which is unsatisfying to say the least.

In the mean time I ordered some exhausts which have arrived: for the Street Bob a set of V&H Staggered Big Shots and for the Sporty a set of V&H Staggered Shortshots. Apparently we are going to need to do the airfilters and so need to do the ECU's...this is where the confusion on my part sets in. I know NOTHING of tuning...

The dealer has gone the "buy a SERT and we'll slap a tune on there which fits 90% of bikes etc " route, but I dont trust them enough to not turn around after everythings been fitted and say "oh sorry you need a Dyno because you're the 10% who needs it" to spin a quick extra buck. Let's just say I've listened to their "service advisor" telling porkies too many times...and they don't have the best of reps out there. Not going to mention names, I'm sure everyone in Brisbane knows who I am talking about :p

The plan is to go SE Stage 1 filter on both, and I was going to go SERT, but it would cost me to have them install and "tune" it on both bikes.

I'm starting to lean towards TTS for both bikes, and try and do it myself? I'm sure I can fit the exhausts and airfilters myself...what should I do?

    Cheers

    BT

Yeah TTS is the way to go. Along with being a much better product for the DIYer, you don't need two full priced modules like the SERT. TTS offers a dual bike version. You get one module that can be married to two bikes, saves some cash. Do the tune yourself and you know its done right.... or have no one to blame but yourself. :)

    Hi guys,

Thanks for all the replies - I think I have pretty much made up my mind on the TTS - especially as it gives me the option to save some cash where two bikes are concerned.

Next question: should I go with the Screamin Eagle Stage 1 filters on the Dyna and Sporty or are there better options out there? I'm not one for the heavy breather type solutions, I'd like something that keeps the bike looking fairly standard...so are the SE stage 1 filters any good?

Being out in Oz, where would you guys recommend buying the TTS and filters from?

    Cheers

Yeah perhaps K&N is the way to go... So am I right when I look at the K&N page supplied - there are kits that I can get instead of just a filter? M&M Cycles the best place to order the K&N's from as well?

So on the fitment of the exhausts - is there anything I should know about removing and fitting the exhausts on the Street Bob and Sportster that is not in the manual? Like making sure you are not stressing the exhaust and putting load on it etc - any tips? Should the nuts pulling the headers onto the heads be torqued?

    Hi Guys

It's been a while since I posted here. What a year it's been - lost my job, got another job and it's been a struggle basically. Not to mention family member passed away as well. So I havent been able to spend the time and money on me and my wife's rides as stated higher up.

Things are now coming round for us and we can finally install the pipes which has been lying in my garage for nearly a year now :p

Question I want to know is: Is the TTS & K&N's combo still the way to go for my Dyna and the wife's Sporty or has there in the mean time been a better product out on the market I should be looking at? (need to do the ECU and filter when I install the pipes)

Thanks for the replies and PM's guys - it's really appreciated.

I do like to tinker and ensure that things are 100% right so the TTS seems to be the choice for me. I haven't done any serious tuning yet so all these accronyms I come across like VE's and this and that is a bit Greek to me, but I am sure once I have it running in front of me on my laptop it would start to make sense.

Being and IT nerd having a laptop is already sorted!

So it seems I will be ordering the two bike kit, cable and K&N filters to use the stock airbox covers. THEN watch our for the questions to start raining down!!

BTW where do you guys stick the laptop when you do your V-tune runs? I assume it needs to be plugged in and running while the bike is being ridden?
