Both Progressive and Ikon are good - I have used both. The last set I purchased was Ikons, they are Australian made, can be rebuilt and are a damn good value for money shock. I rang and talked to the guy (weight, riding style, what I was after) and he advised me on what I should get. Give him a call and see what they say

Looks like Ikon is the go for just under $600 for better riding comfort and we do need up here on Qld roads it's gotta be good value.

If you get a really good tax refund have a shot at a set of Ohlins, I think you may be impressed, I know I am. Makes progressives look like second grade pogo sticks

G'day Choco. My first response to you was a little tongue in cheek because in your initial inquiry you had already made it clear you were after the cheapest. Very rearly is the cheapest the best option. I swear by my YSS on my Road King but go on further to say that they were a premium set in their range of products. So it may be about brand, but also what particular level of product in that brand range. A high end set of Progressive is better than the bottom end set of Progressive. My advice would be to ring around the to the suppliers of the good brands and talk to them about what your requirements and expectations are.

I also appreciate the lack of money! My prioritities in customising are; braking/suspension, motor works and then bling. That is also an indication of how I prioritise my spending. Good luck with keeping it quite from the misses.

Do not look at the Ohlins if you wish to just get by and save some money.  I just finished developing these for Baggers.  I am using the F-1 race based valving in the Ressy for compression and the standard rebound adjuster at the bottom.  This is a 4"/100 mm stroke shock which is the most I can get out of a 13 1/4"/337 mm with a stroke of 3 5/8"/93 mm.  First test ride for the day as very forgiving indeed.  These shocks are not intended for the average joe's income.

You can get the new front and rear Burly kit and still save several bucks compared to the Ikon

I would have to say, i've had a few different shocks on Harleys over the years, but after riding a mates FXDX that had custom built Ohlins built for him by a guy named Frank Pons. that was the best shock bar non.

but it's like putting perfume on a pig in my opinion. the rest of the bike is not up to the same standard, so Ikon would be what i'd use.

    cheers
