Hey guys. I've been thinkin about joining one of the poker runs put on by the clubs. Never done it before. What sort of distance do they cover on the day ?. Can anyone just turn up and join in and ride with them? I dont even know anyone else with a harley so just a bit reluctant to show up by myself lol. Look and sound like good fun though.

Nothing wrong with joining up and riding with any clubs Poker Runs, they are awsome fun and the partys afterwards are often even more fun.

All makes of bikes are invited, not just Harleys & Trumpys.

A few rules to follow If the Poker Run is being put on by one of the patched MC's,

don't ride in front of the lead (patched) members and noms bikes,

    don't ride like a dickhead,

be respectfull when in their clubhouse,

ask permission to photograph club bikes (when in doubt, ask permission)

Most of all, have a great day out. The only problems you may encounter is the overzealous attention of the filth.

    Regards Lofty.

Hi Mako, I was a bit the same as you on my first Poker run (Nomads Right to ride). Now when I go I say gidday to a bunch of people I never see other than on this run. We (the missus comes along as pillion) have always had a ball, never seen any agro, and last year we won the 5th and 7th prizes in the poker hands, bloody awesome prizes and had to get some friends to come and pick them up for us cos we couldnt carry it ll. There should be more Poker runs, its a great day out there is always some flash looking bikes and you meet some gr8 people. Hope to see you on one. Burnzi

    G'day,

Been on many poker runs and they were all great, usually no agro, and everyone seems to get along. Its great to catch up with friends that you only ever see on these type of runs. Most of them you just turn up pay your money and off you go, but my advice to you would be, if you are not used to riding in a pack, stay at the back with the slow riders till you get your confidence up a bit. Each stop is plenty long enough for even the slowest riders to stop and have a beer before you all leave again. Another tip is, if you have a small cooler bag or similar, strap it on the back of the bike somewhere, or put it in a saddlebag if ya have em', with a few cold drinks if you can, because sometimes the queue for the bar is so long you will near die of thirst before you get there, I started doing this long ago, and it has saved me from near collapsing from heat exhaustion many times. I am sure you will have a great time, BUT, beware of the small minority of f***wit wannabe's  that seem to materialise at these runs, who cant handle the pack mentality, and feel the need to compensate for "other things" if you know what i mean, and strut around acting tough, putting on the "I'm cool" show, and try to show their prowess, by riding like dickheads endangering the lives of all the other riders around them. You will soon know if there is one of these fools near you in the pack and the best thing to do is just drop back a bit and stay away from them. I remember one I went on a dickhead overtook me on the inside around a corner doing an absolutely phenomenal speed, he was so close his flapping hoodie hit my arm as he went past!!!FFS!!! how he never clipped my bike and brought us both down, I'll never know, I was doing about 90, and he was doing at least 140-150, and he would have only neen a matter of inches away from the armco on the other side. If he had of clipped me or the armco, I doubt either of us would have survived. The scariest bit was he had his girlfriend on the back at the time!! If I was her I would have given him a slappin' like hed never had before when we stopped!! Thankfully though the dickheads are usually a small minority and easy to spot, and most riders do the right thing.
