At long last i own an Iron 883

owning a harley has been a dream since i was about 12.

Rode the new member of the family back from Blacktown to ACT tonight.

great run till dusk when i realised the headlight had not been adjusted out of the crate.

We stop at Goulburn near a giant sheep and find spark plug sockets in the servo.

I happened to have a torque wrench in my mates car who had given me a lift up to sydney so we did the adjustment and were on our way. Bodgy but it worked.

I should go to sleep but im going to go in the garage and flip the mirrors.

My slip ons arrive tomorrow as does my HD springer seat just happened to be the one i liked the look of most.

will post some pics of the completed mods tommorrow.

For a little while it will be the only Silver Denim Iron in the ACT that i know of.

Just got back from the garage.
flipped the mirrors.
also just realized the emergency repair has caused a little scratch on the back of the speedo damn. might be able to get a spare one from somewhere.
at least ya cant see it. might see if the dealer will replace it coz it wouldnt have happened if the headlight had been adjusted properly.
I will ask very nicely and see what happens.

Havent been to the tarago pub seet but im sure the beer will be good.
I had to forgo the booze about 12 years ago so i measure the pub by its lemon squash now.
i now have an excuse to explore all these nice places now.
the pic on the original post is from the dealers when i collected it.
I will post tomorrow night when i got the seat and pipes on.

got the pipes done but the seat mounting kit was missing from the shipment.
so no new seat.
Pipes sound great had an awesome day off just cruising about making noise.

Congrats on the new ride!!!

I have seen two other silver denim ones here in canberra and several black Irons.   You had me very excited as I ordered one from Robbos canberra back in November last year... thought maybe mine was on the same shipment so gave them a call today to find out when it arrives only to be told another 3-4 weeks!!!  ARGH!!  Awell...  will be worth the wait.  I know when I ordered mine in November there were two other people in front of me for  Black ones and I know they now finally have theirs and I am definately next!

yeah that shipment coming was the one i was waiting formid march end of April they reckoned thats why i went looking. The bike i had on order sold within hours. You gonna love it man thats awesome!!!

Yeah Crackers some are about if deals fall through etc but because they are closing the factory for periods to save cash its hard to get bikes and the dealers have to preorder and i dont think any one expected the popularity of the irons.
there are nightsters around ive seen im in shops unsold but more dollars...

The dealers are pushing the customs and nightsters big time......trying to sway potential iron buyers.

Yeah they are all good bikes dunno something about the iron always appealed to me. The Nightster is more powerful but i havent had an issue so far its a sexy machine but aint they all

Yeah I guess I have been pretty patient...  was late Nov when I ordered and they said would be here end Feb.   Its actually given me more time to sort my finances out better and yeah like Crackers said, if you order an Iron now you won't even get it this year, possibly never!!  Although I am a bit peeved at the service given to me initially at Robbos its not like I can just go elsewhere now....  and I really want an Iron.

I'm actually a bit sus about the whole wait thing actually... they reckon the bike left the states on the 8th Feb and I have been given mixed responses with regards to the delivery date.  I'm a little confused... almost like I was pushed one up in the queue and mine was actually given to someone else (possibly staff or friend of dealer).  they keep saying it takes a month for the bike to come over... so why is it now taking another 3-4 weeks when it left on the 8th... just doesn't add up... who knows!! 

Yeah I'm getting the stock exhuast modified (re-baffled)...  I heard a demo nighster they had and it sounded aweome (i wanted a nice note but not tooo loud).  Also getting a plain black derby cover as I hate the chrome one and a few other bits and pieces like rear footpegs and clip on pillion seat (for the wife) etc.   Will do filter and chip later.

Yeah we should definately get all the Iron owners in Canberra together at some stage!!

Sorry to hijack the thread but, dan I had a similar experience with robbo's.. I went looking for an iron around nov lastyear and they explained to me that the two on the floor were presold and they weren't receiving another iron till feb in sliver (possibly yours?) being stubborn as I am I went on a hunt and found two one in blacktown and another in orange.. Went back to robbo's and told em the finds, got me prices based on the impression they could get the bike through an internal swap.. Numerous phone calls went by sounding less confident each time then nothing heard.. so I scraped it and got untouch with orange dealership instead.. Last I know they still looking for an iron off me, when purely a call saying no bingo would of been much easier..ohwell my little rant sorry NR!

Definately keen for a meet before the cold weather sets in.. Bike will in hibernation til spring

BTW NR, you planning to keep the chrome shine on the pipes or a scotchbrite finish? Would go hand in hand with the matte sliver!

yeah i gotta tell ya those irons were shipped on the 17 feb. plan on a six week wait from that date.
all that 4 weeks crap is utter bullshit.
I went to blacktown harley and they showed me a printout of where each bike and its shipping date is shown.
they also told me it takes 6 weeks minimum from shipping date.
I think the dealer in question forgets all about customer service coz hes the only one in town.

BTW save your money order some slipons from the states s+s sound good and make power. mine are a little loud might go the quite baffles but it will cost you in the region of 300 aus delivered +/- compared to 600 bucks fro something they pay about 150 to have done locally. they will rip you.

Sales team are nice guys but i wouldnt go there unless i have to, Chopper works is great to deal with and the work is of a high standard also moto in mitchell there is also pulfords they all do harleys.

seriously email mark from mand m cycles and get your bits before the bike gets here you have the time and you will save literally hundreds of dollars.
My mate got the baffles done sounds ok but still spent more than he had to. ok if you got dough to burn but i dont.
at least talk to chopper works before you do any thing and check out these and xl forums.

basically for the same pipes here they will charge you over 600 bucks with the money you save from the usa import you can buy lots more stuff.
eg the seat and mounting kit was 498 rrp from harley usa, MandM sold it to me for 401 usd in aus the seat alone will cost you something like 500 aussie.
any way thats my 5 cents worth as soon as i did some research i was totally turned off getting any big purchases from robbos. I like to have great customer service and no
bullshit.

If you plan on getting a pillion and riding with passenger i got the rear shock adjustment spanner happy to help you set up preload. or you might think of ikon shocks
i am only bout 70 kg and my bike is bottoming out a lot. Its made for solo so make sure you set up shocks etc other wise handling may be dangerous.

PM me if you wanna see the bike close up and hear how it sounds im here till sunday then off for 3 weeks.

Hey Reaper... i wish i did the same thing as you!  yeah you would not believe how many times they said they would call me back about something but NEVER did... i had to chase them every time.  I complained to the sales manager and he called me back a few times about some things but again other things he never did.

 Looks great. I bought mine just to get back into riding expecting to trade up in a year. Now I can't see the point in changing, and I'm liking it better by the day. I'm 100% happy with the power which I think is a bit deceptive because the take up is so smooth, and the attention the Iron gets everywhere is a real buzz. Well, we didn't spend all that loot on a HD to not show-off, did we? Ordered mine in May 09 and it arrived in October. After the first service it had really loosened up and is flying now. Hope you enjoy yours as much.

Im happy with the power its got some go and i like the fact the everyone looks at it too hahaha.

I'm live down in Tuggeranong. I got my silver Iron in early Feb.
It's cool and i love it. Haven't got pipes yet, waiting on my forwards first.
I wanted a black one but couldn't get one, found a silver one and now seeing
a black one out at Robbo's, i think silver is much better.
