have a late 1340 shovelhead in my fxrs, have been told that late shovels used evo bottom ends if so was that just cranks or cases as well,if they used the evo cases can you put evo pots and heads on to then have an evo motor.might be a dumb question but im new to harleys and was wondering,
You would be better off selling the shovel motor and buying a brand new crate evo motor, compare the prices you`d maybe get $3000 for the shovel and a new evo is say $5000, against buying heads barrels pistons and fitting them to a 25 year old bottom end. and the shovel would go to someone who would appreciate it
thanks houli, didnt think of that will have to look into it sounds like the way to go,or sell and buy something else, time for a beer.
I'll sell ya a 1995 FXSTC....
Hi Clarkie.
I just spent $6000 in parts alone (no labour) on my HD shovel. If I were smarter, I would have bought an S&S 93 cube Sidewinder shovel engine. Branko quoted me $7500 for one before christmas.
S&S sidewinder shovel engines are built to replace shovel engines. They are a shovel replica on the outside, but much nicer finish. They are built as good as an Evo internally, so you have a shovel with the advantages and reliability of an Evo.
What do you think Houli?
thanks for all the input guys, have thought it over and tend to agree with kiwidave will keep it original and rebuild the old girl in the near future, stood back and looked at it and do like the look of the shovel, its old like me,thanks guys, beer time.
